Description: The Director position will provide leadership and strategy for the Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics' ( WDCOBE ) efforts in developing relationships with external stakeholders. This person will seek ways to create engage through public programs, community building initiatives, and volunteerism coordination. A goal of the WDCOBE Dean's Office is to generate external funding from corporate partners, foundations, government agencies, and alumni to support College operations and initiatives. This position will support development by creating high quality, innovative, timely, and impactful engagement opportunities for external partner with students, faculty, and staff. The External Relations Director will serve in coordination with the College Development Officer as a point of contact for the college's external stakeholders, including alumni, donors, community members, and corporate partners. The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team and take initiative in getting things done. This director will work independently when needed and leverage relationship to successfully broaden the College's brand. The position will be essential to the generation and maintenance of external resources for the Deese College's journey to R1. This position will report to the Dean. This position will be expected to lecture in entry-level freshman and/or sophomore courses in the Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University. Primary Function of Organizational Unit: The Willie A. Deese College of Business and Economics at North Carolina A&T State University has proudly maintained accreditation by The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business ( AACSB International) since 1979. The Accounting accreditation has been in place since 1986. The most recent reaffirmation of accreditation occurred in 2021. The leadership team for the Deese College includes the Dean, Associate Dean of Research and Operations, the Associate Dean of Student Success & Programming, the Assistant Dean/ MBA Director, the MACC Director, the Director of the Transportation Institute, five academic Chairpersons, about 14 administrative services staff and 2 technical services staff. A faculty of over 75 (65 tenured and tenure-track) teach in the Departments of Accounting and Finance, Business Information Systems and Analytics, Economics, Management, and Marketing and Supply Chain Management. Faculty are tasked with providing quality teaching and learning supported by relevant research and service. The student body consists of approximately 1,900 undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate degrees are awarded in Accounting, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Business Information Technology, Economics, Finance, Management Information Systems, Entrepreneurship, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain Management. The graduate degrees offered are the MBA and Master of Accountancy degrees. There are agreements with 70+ corporate partners, support from multiple foundations, engagement with government agencies, and relationships with alumni that include endowments and mentorship. The College has several advisory boards and engagement with local, state, and national communities that are beneficial to students, faculty, and college development. Requirements: The minimum degree and experience qualifications are: A bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or a related field; a master's degree is preferred. At least 5 years of experience in account management, external relations, fundraising, or related fields. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Preferred: The preferred years of experience, skills, training, and education include: A master's degree is preferred. At least 7 to 10 years of experience in external relations, marketing, fundraising, or related fields. Experience working in higher education, preferably in a leadership role. Strong leadership and management skills, with experience supervising staff. Demonstrated success in fundraising and relationship management. Ability to develop and manage budgets.
