Responsibilities
The Statutory Accountant I prepares journal entries, performs routine reconciliations, and analyzes trends and costs to validate results. This role will assist in general ledger reporting, coordination of monthly/quarterly/annual statutory filings, operational systems support to include daily subledger/core insurance system analysis, and maintaining the integrity of subledger/core insurance system projects as they relate to general ledger transactions. The Statutory Accountant I works independently with general supervision and interacts with other departments and/or external parties when directed to fulfill position requirements.
About the role
- Perform general ledger functions; ensure accuracy, timeliness, and conformity with professional accounting standards and best practices in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and statutory requirements
- Prepare monthly journal entries
- Prepare reconciliations of assigned general ledger accounts
- Research and document reconciling items
- Question unusual/non-routine transactions
- Assist with the preparation of external and internal audit schedules and support
- Assist with documentation and compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls
- Assist with internal and external financial reporting for GAAP/Statutory/Compliance
- Participate in special projects as needed
Qualifications
What makes you a dream candidate?
- You have a working knowledge of automated accounting systems and a general understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- You have a working knowledge of account reconciliations, financial statements, and Microsoft Office products
- You can multi-task and work independently
- You have advanced knowledge of Excel
- You have experience with financial reporting tools and database query tools
- You can perform analysis on monthly financial statements and complex transactions
- You have strong analytical, organizational, and computer skills
- You are detail oriented and have strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience
- High School Diploma required; Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience required
- 0-2 years of experience in general accounting or financial analysis preferred

Salary
The base salary range for this role is: USD $47,800.00 to $88,400.00. At GM Financial, we strive for transparency in all aspects of our business, including pay equity. This is the GM Financial pay range for this role and job level. The exact salary and compensation will vary based on factors like knowledge, skills, experience, and education. This role is eligible to participate in a performance-based incentive plan. Full time employees are eligible to participate in health benefits on day one of employment.
