The Opportunity:

The Department of Kinesiology & Educational Psychology, with the College of Education, at Washington State University (WSU) invites applications for an Assistant Professor (Career track/non-tenure track) position serving the Pullman WA campus. The position is a fixed-term nine-month academic appointment, possibility of summer employment, and . The new faculty member will be expected to teach courses each semester in any of the following content areas: motor learning and control, exercise physiology, exercise prescription, research methods, biomechanics, injury rehabilitation, modality applications, and professional development. All faculty members are expected to provide excellent departmental, college, university, and professional service.

Additional opportunities, commensurate with experience, training, degree, and interest may include student mentorship, and teaching courses in the graduate program in kinesiology or athletic training. Finally, we seek applicants who can contribute to our strong program community of innovative teaching and activities integrating kinesiology and/or athletic training into campus and community entities as appropriate. These may include athletics, recreation, fitness facilities, and physical therapy or other health care clinics.

About the Department of Kinesiology & Educational Psychology:

WSU Kinesiology focuses on the study of human movement and physical activity, emphasizing both health and performance aspects. The department offers undergraduate and graduate programs designed to prepare students for careers in fields such as exercise science, physical therapy, athletic training, strength and conditioning, fitness, and research. WSU's undergraduate kinesiology curriculum integrates foundational knowledge in biomechanics, motor control, exercise physiology, and sport psychology with hands-on learning experiences and supports the graduate kinesiology and athletic training degree options. We encourage and facilitate students to gain practical experience through internships, research projects, and laboratory work. The department is committed to improving health and well-being by promoting active lifestyles, fostering interdisciplinary research, and preparing students for professional roles in health, fitness, and sports performance. In addition to academic preparation, the department encourages student engagement in research, giving them opportunities to work with faculty on projects that address topics ranging from physical activity's effects on health to sports performance optimization.

Required Qualifications:

  • A PhD in kinesiology or a terminal degree in a kinesiology-related field. ( ABD candidates may apply but must have their degree completed by August 16, 2025. ) Applicants may also be considered with a master's degree or equivalent degree in kinesiology or related field with 3 or more years of relevant work experience by date of hire.
  • Applicants interested in athletic training must also be certified and eligible for licensure in Washington state. Active membership in kinesiology and/or athletic training professional organizations is expected and additional appropriate professional certifications (e.g., CSCS, etc.) are valued.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Competitive applicants will have a strong record of teaching effectiveness and assessment of culturally and linguistically diverse learners.
  • Past teaching experience should include formal settings (e.g., traditional classroom settings), and may also include informal settings (e.g., personal training, group fitness, corporate wellness).
  • Candidates with a demonstrated record of scholarly activity, including publications, conference presentations, and external funding, are highly desirable.
  • Experience supervising student research or contributing to the development of graduate-level curriculum and research initiatives will also be valued.
  • Additional knowledge and experiences supporting our thriving graduate programs are also desirable.

Annual Salary: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Appointment Details: This is a temporary position with an anticipated start date of August 16, 2025 , and is expected end on August 15, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension, mutual agreement, and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

A background check will not be completed until an initial determination of qualification for employment has been made.
