Position Summary: The Director, Contracts and Procurement will be responsible for developing and executing contract and procurement strategies and standards that support the company's global capital projects. The incumbent will lead and mentor a high performing team and will work closely with internal stakeholders to identify and secure the best suppliers, negotiate favorable contracts, and drive cost savings and efficiencies in support of the Project Management Office responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the identification and implementation of standards and best practices for contracting and procurement in capital projects.
- Strategize and execute a comprehensive procurement plan that drives the growth and success of the company’s capital projects.
- Collaborate with senior management to identify and prioritize business objectives and develop and implement procurement strategies that align with and support these goals.
- Lead by example, provide guidance and mentorship to the team members to develop their skills and abilities.
- Secure favorable terms and conditions in suppliers, subcontractors, and other stakeholders’ contracts.
- Oversee the project procurement budget and implement cost-saving measures to ensure that project procurement activities are executed in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Continuously monitor and analyze procurement expenditures, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to optimize spending and reduce waste.
- Ensure that the capital project procurement processes are streamlined and optimized for maximum efficiency, while also ensuring that all procurement activities are executed in compliance with company policies and standards.
- Stay ahead of industry trends and best practices in capital project procurement by actively seeking out and incorporating new ideas and innovations. Always evaluate and improve procurement processes and procedures to ensure that they are effective, efficient, and in line with industry standards.
- Conduct performance assessments, identify areas for improvement, and implement changes. Encourage the procurement team to share new ideas and approaches for enhancing procurement operations. Actively seek out opportunities for professional development and education to stay at the forefront of industry advancements and trends.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business Administration, PMO preferred.
- A minimum of 15 years of experience supporting large capital projects in commercial and procurement management, with at least 8 years of experience in a leadership role.
- Strong engineering background and experience in a technical industry, such as mining, construction, chemical manufacturing.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
- Ability to communicate and present complex proposals and reports to executive level management.
- Familiar with procurement laws, regulations, and best practices, and experience with procurement software and tools.
- Proficiency in English and using various applications, software, and systems.
- High level of autonomy and meticulous attention to detail.
