Position Number: 002748 Department: College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of Anthropology at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Applied Medical Anthropology position with a specialization in cultural aspects of health disparities. The start date is 15 August 2025. Requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in Anthropology (or a related field only if the dissertation supervisor was an anthropologist) in hand by the time of appointment, a record of scholarly publications and an active research agenda; and experience teaching at the college level. We seek applicants with the ability to support the joint M.A./M.P.H. program. We expect the candidate will be able to contribute to an existing or developing area of excellence at UNC Charlotte, such as urban health, migration and diaspora studies, climate change and resilience, or socioeconomic mobility. The Department of Anthropology at UNC Charlotte emphasizes four-field training for its students and offers B.A. and M.A. degrees in Anthropology with optional concentrations in Applied Anthropology at both levels and Medical Anthropology at the graduate level. The teaching load is two courses per semester plus graduate student mentoring. Applicants should be prepared to teach graduate core courses in Applied Anthropology and Medical Anthropology, plus graduate and/or undergraduate electives. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Requirements for this position are a Ph.D. in Anthropology (or a related field only if the dissertation supervisor was an anthropologist) in hand by the time of appointment, a record of scholarly publications and an active research agenda; and experience teaching at the college level.
