Scheduled Hours 40 Position Summary The Operations & Facilities Management Department at Washington University School of Medicine is committed to delivering a comprehensive range of services to support the medical campus. We oversee maintenance and operations for 65 buildings, covering more than 11.1 million gross square feet of space. This includes the 11-story, 609,000-square-foot neuroscience research building, which houses one of the worlds highest concentrations of neuroscientists. Our responsibilities include operational and administrative support, strategic planning, and project management. Furthermore, as the School of Medicine continues to expand its presence both on and off campus in areas such as teaching, clinical care, and research, our team remains instrumental in ensuring the seamless delivery of clinical care, advancing research initiatives, and facilitating educational endeavors. Operates, inspects, and follows operating procedures of boilers and chillers to satisfy varying demands of heating and cooling loads. Performs chemical and equipment tests, and monitors and records all data required to maintain a daily record of the Euclid Power Plant operation. Job Description Primary Duties & Responsibilities: Operates boilers and chillers to satisfy the heating and cooling demands of the Washington University School of Medicine Campus. Watches monitors, controls, and instruments to ensure a safe and reliable operation and maintains daily accurate records of the operating conditions of the plant by posting them in the Operators logbook. Executes daily water chemical tests of plant equipment to safeguard the operating conditions of the equipment. Attends any required training to comply with the Safety regulations and guidelines of the University and the Local Governing Agencies. Performs daily inspections of assigned areas and keeps them clean and safe for plant operation for at least 1 hour during the shift, when time permits. Assists the Euclid Power Plant Manager in developing and updating Plant Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operating the Plant Equipment based on the same. Performs all duties safely in accordance with OSHA, University Guidelines, and any other Governing Agency as required. Consistently display the Departments Core Values in all interactions and work. Working Conditions: Job Location/Working Conditions Works inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy. Exposed to wet and cold conditions as well as noise and vibration from operation equipment. Physical Effort Must be able to lift and carry tools and material weighing more than 50 pounds and be able to raise and carry with assistance items weighing 200 pounds. Climbs, balances, stoops, kneels, and crouches to gain access to pipes, wiring, and equipment. Handles a variety of hand and power tools and instruments. Near-visual acuity is needed to read equipment instructions, and diagrams and to inspect components. Depth perception is a field of vision required to fit and install parts.
