Assistant Manager, Laboratory Operations & Compliance - Clinical Lab - Full Time 8 Hour Days (Exempt) (Non-Union) - Military Veterans

The Assistant Manager for Lab Operations and Compliance supports day to day administrative operation and/or compliance issues for the department as appropriate. The individual is responsible for assisting the Operations Managers and the Associate Administrator in collaborating with internal departmental leaders to ensure effective, efficient and compliant, employee relationships, customer service, performance improvement, compliance with regulatory guidelines and maintaining intra and interdepartmental communication. This also includes assessing and making recommendation to streamline workflows for continuous improvement. In addition, this individual will coordinate proficiency testing, inspection readiness and CLIA/CAP licensure. Also act in the role as a project manager to facilitate, coordinate, document, and manage multiple projects and processes.
Essential Duties:
- Responsible for simple maintenance (i.e., daily, weekly, monthly) as specified by the manufacturer and procedure manual.
- Perform routine operations of instruments as specified by the manufacturers and procedure manual: a) loading specimen; b) testing; c) retrieving results; d) utilizing computer interface/imputing results into LIS (Laboratory Information System).
- Understand calibration procedures and requirements as stated in the technical and procedure manuals.
- Perform simple trouble shooting procedures and adjustments as outlined in instrument operators manual.
- Perform major trouble-shooting procedures as specified by the manufacturers in "hot-line" situations.
- Authorize service call when situation requires major manufacturer repair beyond the employee scope.
- Understand use of quality control material (i.e., means, acceptable ranges, trends, shifts, and out-of-control procedures) as outlined in department procedure manual.
- Help to maintain records by documenting quality control results, out-of-control action, and informing supervisors of recurring problems or those problems requiring immediate attention.
- Responsible for maintaining accuracy of quality control records and performing out-of-control procedures when required.
- Perform all testing procedures, in assigned department, as described in the departmental procedure manual.
- Understand collection and handling requirements for procedures, as defined in department procedure manuals.
- Perform test results within specified time periods as stated in procedure manual (i.e., stats, ward reports, etc.).
- Responsible for phoning test results as requested by the ordering physician or as required by the departmental procedure manuals (i.e., stats panic values and drug levels).
- Follow safety guidelines as specified by the departmental and hospital fire and safety manual.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Req 5 years Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the Laboratory Department
- Req 2 years Experience in handling compliance issues at large, multi-hospital system(s)
- Req Strong ability to manage teams of individuals with diverse backgrounds and education/training towards a common objective.
- Req Demonstrate skill and sound knowledge of laboratory non-technical processes
- Req Conduct document reviews and identify process improvement opportunities
- Req Possess excellent project management skills
- Req Develop, coordinate, streamline competency assessment program; conduct, audits
- Req Ensure full participation and compliance with proficiency testing programs
Preferred Qualifications:
- Pref Specialized/technical training Graduate from an accredited Certified Laboratory Scientist (CLS) Program
- Pref Bachelors Degree Bachelor of Science degree in medical technology or related science preferred or equivalent experience.
- Pref Clinical Laboratory Technician Valid clinical laboratory technologist license
Required Licenses/Certifications:
- Req Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) If no card upon hire, one must be obtained within 30 days of hire and maintained by renewal before expiration date. (Required within LA City only)
The annual base salary range for this position is $81,120.00 - $133,010.00.
