Postdoctoral Research Associate in Single-Molecule Protein Sequencing (Stein) | Brown University - Military Veterans

The single-molecule biophysics group led by Prof. Derek Stein at Brown University is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to perform experimental research on an NIH-funded project related to single-molecule protein sequencing. The primary objectives are to investigate the use of ultraviolet light for fragmenting peptides in solution and to add a peptide fragmentation capability to the single-ion mass spectrometers the group has developed. The position involves fundamental and applied research within an interdisciplinary research team comprising graduate, undergraduate students, and external collaborators at the National Institute of Standards & Technology (NIST). The position also involves travel to the NIST campus in Bethesda, MD for collaborative work with scientists there. The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in physics, chemistry, engineering, or a related field. Prior research experience in photochemistry/photo-physics, single-molecule biophysics, and/or proteomics is desirable but not required. We are above all looking for a highly motivated and independent researcher who is passionate about basic research and the development of impactful commercial applications. Salary is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. The initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of extension.
