Cornell's Hudson Research Valley Lab (CHVRL) supports fruit, vegetable, and emerging crop production through the Hudson Valley region of New York and beyond. The CHVRL works in partnership with Cornell AgriTech and a farmers' alliance. CHVRL operates pathology, entomology, and horticulture laboratories and is situated on over 20 acres of experimental orchard and vineyard space in the heart of the Hudson Valley's fruit production zone. The Lab is hiring new staff as Cornell continues its commitment to ensure that agriculture remains vibrant in the Hudson Valley. We seek a Laboratory and Research Technician II to support research and extension activities conducted at the Lab including: Provide routine to moderately complex laboratory technical support for research programs Assist in developing and maintaining standard laboratory records Assist with research projects including field experiment set-up and monitoring, data collection and management, installing, monitoring and troubleshooting environmental sensors, deploying and maintaining pest monitoring equipment, sampling field and laboratory data, and related laboratory and field processes Assist with maintenance experimental field plots including but not limited to pruning, weed control, planting, irrigation, pesticide application, and infrastructure maintenance and repair Assist with digital, precision and regenerative agriculture experiments including but not limited to production and monitoring of biochar, agrivoltaics, integrated pest management Assist with extension programming, both on and off site, including developing materials, providing event support and coordination for in-person and digital events Provide administrative support including meeting notes, assisting data stewardship, assisting with project reporting, timelines and budget tracking The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and as part of a team to undertake research, extension, laboratory and farm-related activities. You will work under the supervision of the Lab director and in close coordination with the Farm Manager and other researchers including Cornell partners at New York State Integrated Pest Management Program and Cornell Cooperative Extension Eastern New York Commercial Horticulture Program. This is a full time, (39 hours per week) one-year term appointment that is eligible for extension based upon available work, funding and performance. No visa sponsorship is available for this position. No relocation assistance is available for this position Required Qualifications: We are looking for enthusiastic team-minded individuals interested in serving the farming community through the support of applied research. Additionally, the candidate will need the following: Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion , and wellbeing. Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color. Experience working with diversity, equity, inclusion, and wellbeing programs. Ability to serve as an advocate for individuals of all ethnicities, genders, ages, and backgrounds. Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. High school diploma and up to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination. Prior experience in a laboratory setting. Prior knowledge of safety protocols in a lab setting and proper waste handling. Experience with Microsoft office suite - including word, powerpoint and excel and familiarity with outlook. Ability to communicate verbally and written with faculty, staff and students. Must have and maintain a valid and unrestricted NYS drivers license and be cleared to drive for university business.
