Director, Real Estate and Land Services - Military Veterans

What You Can Expect

As the Director, Real Estate and Land Services you will provide critical expertise within Engie's Flexible Generation business unit that focuses on developing and operating large utility-scale energy storage projects across the US, particularly in the CAISO and ERCOT regions. Leading a team of land professionals, you will secure land rights to support ENGIE's 10 GW energy storage goal by 2030. Responsibilities include managing a large existing land portfolio, develop strategies for site acquisition, negotiating site control agreements, building relationships with landowners and communities, enhancing contract execution processes, and overseeing internal and contract land agents.

Candidates must have a strong transactional background, exceptional organizational and managerial skills, real estate expertise, and the ability to travel up to 20%. Collaboration with development, legal, finance, and construction departments is essential to handle real estate matters throughout the project lifecycle, from site acquisition to financing, construction initiation, and operations. This position reports to the Chief Development Officer and is available in Houston, TX, various US locations, or remotely.

  • Manage Robust Existing Land Portfolio: Oversee a diverse portfolio of land positions across California, Texas, and the Midwest, ensuring deadlines and multiple project objectives are met
  • Develop and Execute Acquisition Strategies: Create and implement land acquisition strategies for greenfield and existing projects, including negotiating easements, leases, and related agreements
  • De-Risk Title and Survey Issues: Review and resolve title and survey-related issues, coordinate with Land Services, Development teams, and third parties to mitigate risks
  • Lead Real Estate and Financing Efforts: Guide the real estate work stream through project financings and collaborate with management to support land acquisition for energy storage projects
  • Ensure Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated on federal, state, and local regulations related to battery project development, and maintain expertise in land/environmental policies and mineral interests
  • Collaborate and Communicate Effectively: Work closely with legal teams, project managers, and diverse project teams, ensuring clear communication and accurate documentation of agreements
  • Optimize Project Management: Improve work procedures and policies, demonstrate strong organizational and project management skills, and work independently to achieve project goals

What You'll Bring
  • A Bachelor's degree with a minimum of ten (10) years' experience, including at least seven (7) years focused on land acquisition
  • Comprehensive understanding of real estate matters and proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Outlook, LandWorks, and mapping software such as DeedPlotter, Metes and Bounds, or ArcGIS.Proficiency in Microsoft Suite, Outlook, and LandWorks
  • Team-oriented mindset with the ability to quickly and efficiently shift between priorities, alongside a proven ability to plot legal descriptions and strong project management capabilities

Additional Details
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid work policy
  • Must be available to travel domestically up to 20% of the time and with the need for some overnight trips
  • Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies

Compensation

Salary Range: $154,000 - $236,000 USD annually

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

Actual offered salary may depend on geography, experience, industry knowledge, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
