Hourly Salary: $47.89-53.42

Responsibilities:

  • Considerable judgment needed to evaluate a broad range of very extensive and complex electrical and metering projects.
  • Responsible for the proper handling and operation of all tools and work equipment including RF diagnostic, GPS, test equipment and mobile data terminal associated with an automated service order system.
  • Assist and devise methods, estimates and procedures for a complete work plan. Perform installation, repair, and maintenance of single and three phase alternating current meters, metering transformers CT/PT, switches, wiring and related equipment on primary and secondary services.
  • Independent judgment and involvement required in dealing with, but not limited to customers, contractors, landlords, inspectors and other agencies regarding electrical codes, project scopes and cost estimates.
  • Support the efforts and field inspections required for Standard Solutions, the Connect Process. Activities include, but are not limited to, working with contractors, electricians and home owners, spotting services, temporary services, demolitions and field support.
  • Provide service results that are acceptable to internal and external customers.
  • Considerable amount of ingenuity and resourcefulness required in diagnosing, troubleshooting and resolving customer or utility owned electrical system designs and operational problems. Electrical systems to include primary and secondary metering applications, current and potential transformers, by-passed, jumpered or unmetered conditions, all electrical apparatuses under the state license of E-2 and E-1 and insure accuracy of electrical wiring that affects the registration of energy usage. The ability to maximize resources in obtaining and resolving access problems.
  • The customer electrician will be required to perform all duties allowed under the state license of an electrical journeyperson (E-2) or under the supervision of an electrical contractor (E-1). These duties will include but are not limited to work on both customer (commercial, residential, industrial) premises and work as required by utilities or municipalities.
  • Perform installation and maintenance of streetlights and secondary services. May require working with and coordinating work with other functional areas in Company such as Power Delivery and Transmission and Substation.
  • Identify, notify and correct safety violations with electrical equipment. Responsible for installing external monitoring equipment and devices on services.
  • Assist in the training of personnel.
  • Be alert for signs of theft of service, report and correct situations, which may have an adverse affect on revenue integrity.
  • Collect customer electric usage and equipment information to support but not limited to revenue cycle and energy related services (conservation audit etc.).
  • Perform the duties of all technical classifications within the Standard Field sequence. Actively support and assist team members to achieve business unit's metric.
  • Work hours determined by the company to meet customer and company needs including weekend, extended hours, holiday, emergency and off schedule hours.
  • Communicate effectively with internal and external customers.
  • Operate motor vehicle, bucket truck, meter test van and communication equipment (i.e. Field Automation/MDT, cellular phones, pagers, two-way radio, GPS, etc).
  • Observe all company policies, operating procedures, guidelines, safety rules and regulations.

Education & Experience:
  • Requires, as a minimum, a current State of Connecticut Electrical Journey person E-2 license. The E-2 license must be maintained. Requires the use of advanced trades' mathematics together with the use of diagrams, electrical maps, schematics and construction drawings, drawings, and charts. Calculate and apply electric formulas. Use a variety of measuring and testing instruments, knowledge of National Electrical Code and National Electric Safety Codes. Use mobile data terminals and instruments. Must have and maintain a valid Connecticut driver's license and be able to drive a company vehicle.
  • Over 1 year up to and including 3 years

Physical Demand:Generally light physical effort, frequent walking and driving, working outside, basements and meter rooms, may be exposed to cramped or dark areas and in all weather conditions. Carry various light metering equipment, hand tools, handheld computer and diagnostic equipment. Occasionally working with extension/step ladders/aerial bucket truck/aerial lifts.

Mental or Visual Demand: Concentrated mental and visual attention required as well as a high degree of manual dexterity.

Equipment or Process: Probable damage to motor vehicle, bucket truck, tools, test equipment, Customer equipment, or loss of access keys due to carelessness or poor workmanship could be over $2,250 but seldom over $9,000.

Material or Product: Probable damage or loss can occur to customer or UI owned property and equipment, meters, transformers and related equipment. This can result in the potential loss of revenue due to the carelessness or improper judgment in the inspection and installation of electrical associated equipment may be appreciable.

Safety of Others: Responsible to take extreme care; careless operation, wrong connections, etc. may cause serious burns or electrical shock while working with voltages up to 13.8kv volts. Improper wiring (NEC violations) of electrical equipment may result in the cause of a severe accident. Improper inspection and endorsement letter issuance associated with demolition and removal of electrical facilities may cause severe accidents involving customers or contractor.

Work of Others: Responsible for own work or occasionally for 1 other.

Working Conditions: May be somewhat disagreeable conditions such as rain, snow, heat, cold dirt, water, dogs, fleas and other vermin. May be exposed to high crime conditions.

Unavoidable Hazards: Serious burns, electrical shock, hand, foot and back injuries, partially incapacitating in nature while working on live metering equipment and services up to 13.8kv.
