Position Summary: The Psychology Department at Western Carolina University (WCU) invites applications for a 12-month fixed-term clinical psychology faculty position at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank, with a projected start date of August 2024. Position will be funded by Cherokee Indian Hospital (CIH) for 3 years starting FY25. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled. This position has been created in partnership with the Cherokee Indian Hospital Authority. The candidate's load will include serving as both a hospital-based licensed, psychologist at CIH, as well as fixed-term faculty member with responsibilities teaching and supervising psychology graduate students at WCU. To this end, the successful candidate will have work experience as a licensed psychologist with a particular focus on assessment, diagnosis, and intervention with youth. Cherokee Indian Hospital (CIH) is a state-of-the-art facility providing the highest standards of healthcare, in a unique, Cherokee-infused environment meant to nurture and heal. The core purpose of CIH is to assure the prosperity of the next seven generations of the Easter Band of Cherokee Indians and to be the partner of choice for the community by providing accessible, quality-focused, patient- and family-centered healthcare, while responsibly managing the Tribe's resources. The successful candidate will serve CIH by offering clinical assessments and treatment plans to patients. The expectation would be at least 40 encounters per month (or 10 per week). Also, the university load would include supervision and teaching of graduate students through our department's state-of-the art, public-facing McKee Assessment and Psychological Services Clinic. The McKee Clinic is dedicated to providing advanced assessment training for our graduate students (Master's, SSP, and PsyD) through affordable comprehensive services to individuals, families, and schools in Western North Carolina. The eligible candidate needs to have earned a doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in clinical or health service psychology from an accredited institution. Licensure as a psychologist is required. Current or eligibility for licensure in North Carolina is preferred. Experience with comprehensive assessment, particularly as it relates to pediatric populations, is especially relevant. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position: Minimum Qualifications: Doctorate in Psychology (PhD/PsyD) in clinical or health service psychology, or closely related field from an accredited institution. Licensed as a psychologist. The doctoral degree and licensure requirements must be completed before the appointment begins. Preferred Qualifications: Experience administering psychological assessments and report writing as well as mentoring graduate students in doing the same is preferred. Ability to teach graduate level courses in psychology (e.g., ethics, consultation, child and family interventions), and supervise masters and doctoral students in practicum or other clinical experiences.
