Position Summary: The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus. Western Carolina University invites applications for a fixed-term (non-tenure-track), 9-month position as Assistant Professor of Practice in Higher Education. The preferred start date is January 1, 2025 (Spring 2025 term), but could be August 1, 2025 (Fall 2025 term). While having primary responsibilities associated with the Higher Education Student Affairs (HESA) master's program, the position also coordinates (and has the opportunity to teach in) the undergraduate Leadership Minor (LEAD), as well as possible instruction in the Higher Education track of the Educational Leadership (EdD) doctoral program. These programs are located in the Human Services Department in the College of Education and Allied Professions. The Human Services Department (HS) is a diverse department focused on creating a collaborative educational environment that supports our students' professional development. General Job Description: Teach 4 courses per semester (8 per academic year), mostly face-to-face, but some hybrid/online. The combination of courses may be from any of the three programs mentioned above and assigned in consultation with relevant Program Directors and Department Head. Summer teaching opportunities for additional compensation are often available. Program, department, college, and university service. Collaborate with HESA faculty on responsibilities including curriculum, recruitment, admissions, assessment, advising students, assistantship and internship placement, advisory board, orientation, and overall program administrative duties. Note: faculty share program administrative duties and often rotate the 'Program Director' role. Leadership Minor Duties: Course scheduling, adjunct instructor selection, curriculum, advising students, and annual program assessment. Serve as the liaison with the Student Leadership Programs Office and other relevant departments in the Division of Student Affairs. Based on service roles within the HESA Program, a rotation for coordinating the minor may be implemented. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required for this position: Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Leadership, or closely related field.Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levelDemonstrated practitioner experience in higher education and/or student affairs administrative practice.Possess strong communication, relational, and organizational skills.
