Position Summary The School of Education and MSU Denver invite applications for a full time, tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor within the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education (CLD) program. The CLD added endorsement program at MSU Denver prepares educators to work with the growing number of K-12 emerging bilingual students in Colorado. Grounded in evidence-based practices and research, the CLD program provides educators with the skills and knowledge to accommodate and ensure the academic success of culturally and linguistically diverse students across the state. CLD courses are required by all teaching licenses by the Colorado Department of Education, which makes the CLD endorsement courses pivotal to all SOE licensure programs. Because the SOE is committed to sustaining and honoring the cultural and linguistic practices of our Latine/Latinx/Hispanic communities, we also offer the CLD Bilingual Education Specialist (BES) K-12 Endorsement. All Colorado licensed teachers who are proficient in Spanish and English and want to work in bilingual Spanish classrooms can add this credential to their teaching license. MSU Denver has a robust mentoring program for tenure-track faculty. The candidate will be enrolled in the Roadrunner Faculty Academy during their first year. This is a year-long course designed to support new faculty navigate faculty life and thrive in teaching, scholarly activity and service. Responsibilities A successful candidate must have the ability to effectively: Teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels including day and/or evening courses (with possible weekend sections) in the teacher preparation program, which may include: (a) Foundations of CLD and Bilingual Education, Assessment of CLD Students, Second Language Acquisition, ESL and Bilingual Education Methods, Bilingual Theory and Research, and Literacy and Biliteracy Development for Emergent Bilingual Students; (b) Other required clinical and curricular educator preparation duties, such as revising or creating courses to align with state mandates, preparing students for state required teacher education assessments, and more' (c) Supervision of field experiences and/or student teachers in PreK-12 settings. Maintain office hours per week during the academic year as indicated in the Faculty Employment Handbook. Teach courses in a variety of formats including, in person (on campus), hybrid, or completely online format (synchronous and/or asynchronous). Work collaboratively with Colorado schools and community agencies. Work effectively with colleagues to develop, evaluate, and teach CLD and BES courses as well as design CLD and BES curricula. Demonstrate experience and commitment to meet the educational needs of students from diverse student populations. Demonstrate commitment to teaching, advising, research, and service to the Department, School, University, and professional community. Develop and implement a research agenda that includes publication and dissemination of peer- reviewed manuscripts and presentations at peer-reviewed professional conferences. Serve, lead, and actively participate in events and meetings with students to build community and support them socially and academically as well as other faculty and staff in affinity groups, committees, or student organizations. Pursue external funding and lead initiatives to improve our academic and service programs. Required Qualifications Doctorate in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, Bilingual Education,English as a Second Language, or related field is required. ABD candidates are welcome to apply, however, the degree must be conferred prior to the start of appointment in August 2025. Preferred Qualifications Three years of professional teaching experience in linguistically diverse settings Bilingual/biliterate proficiency, particularly in Spanish (Bilingual Education Specialist endorsement classes taught in Spanish) Knowledge, research expertise, and/or experience in bilingual and ESL/CLD education Professional experience working with children/youth, families, and communities in a variety of linguistically diverse settings Exhibit knowledge about issues in the field of culturally and linguistically diverse education and bilingual education Experience and/or ability to work with and commitment to the educational needs of a linguistically and culturally diverse urban population, including first-generation, adult, working, and other identity representations Experience and/or ability to work effectively with colleagues to develop, evaluate, and teach CLD and BES courses that will effectively support the success of all students Experience and/or ability to collaborate in partnerships with K-12 schools and community agencies Experience and/or ability to pursue external funding and lead initiatives to improve our academic and service program We encourage you to apply even if you do not meet every preferred qualification. Salary for Announcement The salary range for this position is $55,000 - $75,000 . The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based upon a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, education, experience, specialty and training.
