Department Summary The Bruin Resource Center (BRC) is the home for a number of campus centers and programs that provide support to different student communities including students who have been part of the foster care and probation systems, students who are undocumented or a part of mixed-status families, parenting students and students who are taking care of other dependents such as siblings, students in recovery, students who were formerly incarcerated or impacted by the carceral system and students who have experienced houselessness. Position Summary The Students with Dependents (SwD) Assistant Program Director (APD) will have shared oversight of the Students with Dependents Program. Reporting to the Program Director of the Students with Dependents Program located within the Bruin Resource Center (BRC), the SwD APD is responsible for supporting the Program Director in planning, developing, implementing, and assessing programs designed to support the success and well-being of students with dependents and parenting students at UCLA. The SwD APD will assist with office management, event planning, coordination of program initiatives, and identifying and accessing campus and community resources available to these students, helping them overcome the unique barriers they face in succeeding in a collegiate environment. Utilizing strengths-based frameworks grounded in social justice, the Assistant Program Director will support students by offering referrals to both on- and off-campus partners, supervising undergraduate and graduate interns, and assisting the Program Director in managing administrative functions such as working with donors and managing budgets. The APD will also play a key role in event planning, program coordination, and office management, while broadening access to campus and community resources available to this population. In addition, the APD will support the management of grants, such as the Child Care Access Means Parents in School Program Grant, when they are available, ensuring effective use of resources and compliance with grant requirements. The Assistant Program Director supports the goals and strategic plans developed by the Program Director, which align with the mission of the department and Student Affairs. This includes participation in organizational goal setting, assessment, and campus-wide committee involvement. The incumbent will oversee professional staff and/or student workers, collaborate with various campus departments (e.g., Academic Advancement Program, Financial Aid, Counseling) Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications 2-3+ Years Experience supporting students with dependents. (Preferred) Prior supervisory experience. (Preferred) Knowledge of current issues and community services that have an impact on students with dependents. (Required) Excellent oral and written communication skills to present information clearly and effectively to individuals, small and large groups. (Required) Detailed working knowledge of federal regulations impacting student records, including FERPA and HIPPA. (Required) Concentrated experience working with parenting students and students with dependents in a higher education or community setting (Required) Demonstrated skills to design, implement, and evaluate programs to address the unique needs and concerns of students with dependents. (Required) Demonstrated knowledge of motivation, negotiation, conflict resolution, teambuilding, interpersonal communication, and consensus building; skills to apply these techniques to facilitate desired outcomes in working relationships with culturally diverse students, staff and faculty. (Required) Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all student and employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines. (Required) Technical literacy with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access), electronic mail and the Internet. (Required) Effective organizational skills. (Required) Experience in event planning, program development, coordination and evaluation. (Required) Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups. Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.
