The Jones Laboratory is focused on the characterization of how fatty acid metabolism alters/contributes to normal, pre-malignant, and malignant blood development. Using mouse models, we characterize how blood-forming stem cells obtain and synthesize fat and how these same processes are altered in the setting of malignant transformation and pre-malignant states.
The candidate will be trained by Dr. Jones and will:
- Maintain our mouse colony.
- Dissect mouse tissues (bone marrow and spleen) to process for end applications.
- Perform flow cytometry.
- Perform Western blot.
- Perform RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and gene expression analysis through qRT-PCR.
- High school diploma or associates degree
- Have exposure to a wet lab setting, at least one summer research experience.
- Experience reading and critiquing scientific literature.
- Comfortable pipetting
- Comfortable with mouse-based research (at least in concept).
- Bachelors degree preferably in the biologic field
- Prior mouse research exposure and experience maintaining mouse colony.
- Past experience analyzing flow cytometry data.
- Past experience with Western Blotting.
Majority of research will be in person, but data analysis and any writing can be done remotely.
