This position is located at Vandenberg Space Force Base, California and is not eligible for telecommuting.
Essential Functions :
- Control Western Range (WR) airspace and air assets in support of space launch operations, pre-launch tests, and aeronautical operations.
- Support WR space launch and aeronautical operations in United States Space Force (USSF) certified Duty Air Controller (DAC), Air Controller (AC), and Surface Area Surveillance Controller (SASC) positions.
- Control and monitor scheduled range activities utilizing WR instrumentation in the contractor certified Instrumentation Controller (IC) position.
- Control and coordinate WR airspace and air assets in support of launch operations, pre-launch tests, and aeronautical operations.
- Control aircraft and provide acquisition to supporting instrumentation (radar and telemetry) during aeronautical operations.
- Conduct local area surveillance and control of aircraft sea vessels during launch operations.
- Ensure operations and surveillance activities are accomplished safely, and hazard and caution areas are clear during launches.
- Interface with test conductors and range instrumentation such as telemetry or metric radars.
- Interface with USSF and other government representatives and provide assistance in resolving conflicts between support elements and range resources while conducting pre-launch operational testing.
- Determine and issue boundary, traffic and safety advisories to range users to preserve safety-of-flight and assist aircraft to remain within special use airspace.
- Adhere to USSF, Department of Defense (DoD), and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations, directives, inter-agency agreements, policies, and procedures.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to present essential information to pilots clearly, concisely, and quickly before or during flight.
- Ability to interpret requirements and convert into action plans.
- Ability to make educated decisions under pressure, and act decisively in emergency situations.
- Ability to follow approved directives, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Detail oriented.
Required Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and graduate of an appropriate civil or military air traffic control school or military air intercept/weapons controller school.
- Minimum of two (2) years air controller experience and/or training.
- Experience controlling aircraft in a variety of tasks in support of Aerial Surveillance missions.
- Knowledge and understanding of procedures related to airspace structures, and the relationship and coordination required between components of the air traffic system.
- Two (2) years of experience in military (range) operations preferred
- Graduate of an USAF Air Weapons Controller/Air Weapons Manager or USN Air Intercept Controllers Course or equivalent preferred.
- Experience using an automated Air Traffic Control and Surveillance Systems to control aircraft in a military environment preferred.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
- Flexibility to work non-duty hours, or on weekends, to support specific project or mission requirements.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance, which includes U.S. citizenship
- Salary determined by Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License.

The hourly rate for this role is determined by a Collective Bargaining Unit and ranges from $37.06 - $46.24/hr. RGNext considers several factors when extending an offer for employment, including but not limited to, the role and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, education/training and preferred skills and knowledge.
