JOB SUMMARY

The Clinical Risk Manager will assist with the Risk Management Program per Florida Statute, Chapter 395.0197, controlling exposure to loss through education, surveillance and performance improvement activities focused on improving safety for patients, visitors and staff. The program will comply with Florida Statute, Chapter 395.0197.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

• Assists with the coordination and administration of system-wide reporting procedures (incidents) that meet state requirements.

• Performs event investigations including medical record reviews with accurate assessment of adverse events, implementation of action plans with appropriate follow-up.

• Assists with the analysis of the frequency and causes of adverse events, statistical trends of incidents, losses, and patterns.

• Conduct Root Cause Analysis when indicated on incidents and "near misses".

• Participates in and provides tracking/trending reports of patient safety events to various committees to include Pharmacy and Therapeutics and related subcommittees, Environment of Care and Zero Harm committees.

• Performance Improvement - Identifies opportunities for improvement and participates in PI Team committees.

• Completes Code 15 and Sentinel Event reports for adverse events and Annual Report as outlined per Florida Statute and regulatory guidelines.

• Participates/Co-leads the Patient Safety Committee.

• Assists with the investigation of allegations of sexual misconduct made against a member of NCH personnel who has direct patient contact. Follows reporting protocol.

• Works collaboratively with directors and patient relations staff as requested to review and resolve patient complaints that have a risk component.

• Assists with overseeing the initiation and closure of patient Grievances in accordance with the protocol and time frames outlined in the NCH Patient Grievance Policy in compliance with State and Federal regulations. Serves on the Patient Grievance Committee

• Assists in fostering service recovery with the patient and promoting the patient's understanding of our healthcare system's patient grievance process.

• Provides on-going risk management and patient safety education and training to staff.

• Assists in managing the FDA Recall process with prompt notification to stakeholders and mitigation of potential risks to device users and patients.

• Reviews policies and procedures related to Risk Management and recommends revisions as needed.

• Effectively negotiates completion of tasks.

• Displays positive leadership traits and serves as a resource to staff and physicians. Works collaboratively with Directors.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Minimum Bachelor's 's Degree in Nursing required; Certification in Risk Management, Quality or Patient Safety preferred. (CPHRM, CPHQ, or CPPS).

• Must have at least 3-5 years recent acute care RN experience.

• Minimum 2 years' experience in Risk Management, Quality Management or Leadership in an acute care setting.

• Intermediate computer knowledge: Uses Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Windows
