Audit Services and Institute Compliance (ASIC) is an independent and objective assurance and advisory function that is guided by a philosophy of adding value to improve the operations of the Institute. It assists the Institute in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the organization's governance, risk management, compliance, and internal control. Reporting to the ASIC Senior Director of Audit, the individual in this position will manage and conduct financial and operational audits to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of systems, processes, and controls. They may manage, facilitate, and conduct special projects to provide advice and to ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, contracts, and grants, and they will supervise employees who are assigned to individual projects they are managing. The person in this position will be required to be a self-starter with the ability to work independently or as part of a team. Essential Job Duties Manage and conduct financial and operational audits in accordance with the Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing as promulgated by the International Institute for Internal Auditing (IIA). Manage large, complex audit projects of organizational systems, processes, controls and industry best practices; assignments may be highly sensitive and have Institute-wide impact. Manage advisory projects in accordance with IIA Standards and ASIC internal policies and procedures. May manage and conduct special projects in accordance with ASIC's internal policies and procedures. Act in an expert advisory capacity and provide strategic overview on various levels of audit activity. Manage multiple audit/advisory projects simultaneously; recommend approaches and personnel for projects to management. Review audit and special project documentation of audit teams to ensure they support conclusions and results based on appropriate analyses and evaluations. Communicate the results of audits and special projects via written reports and oral presentations to various levels of management. Manage or conduct investigations of suspected irregular conduct in conjunction with other Institute resources. Provide guidance and direction to audit teams in identifying operational gaps or deficiencies as well as effective recommendations for improvement. Provide guidance and play a key role in the development of auditors Build relationships with key partners, including Office of General Counsel, Security, IT, Human Resources, and other colleagues in ASIC. Work directly with all levels of the Caltech community. Develop and maintain customer and staff relationships. Assist in the development of ASIC's annual risk assessment and Annual Audit, Advisory, and Compliance plan. Assist in ASIC continual improvement efforts, developing new methodologies and documented procedures for internal activities. May serve on Institute committees or working groups representing ASIC. Provide input to ASIC operating strategy based on departmental goals. Stay abreast of current trends and issues in internal auditing, higher education, and aerospace. Other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in business or related field. Ten or more years of audit, advisory, and compliance experience. Comprehensive knowledge of laws, regulations, grants, and contracts to identify discrepancies in organizational policies, practices, and/or procedures. Ability to apply mastery of skills in providing audit and -advisory services to large, complex technical and non-technical operations. Excellent analytical skills with ability to identify and assess risk and exposures across a wide variety of processes. Excellent project management and organizational abilities. Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to provide guidance, mentoring, and development to employees. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively in both one-on-one and group interactions. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement with a strong customer focus Must possess necessary credentials to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory: US citizenship or permanent residency. Preferred Qualifications Experience in higher education or aerospace. Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor. Required Documents Resume.
