Employment Type:Full-Time Temporary If Part-Time, indicate the number of hours per week Position Length:12-month Salary Range:Grade X Salary Amount:$171,335 - $208,593 Salary Type:Annual Is this position categorically (grant) funded?No If categorically (grant) funded, date funded through: Department Specific Needs:As a member of the Vice President for Student Services Leadership team, the Dean of Students provides direct leadership and oversight for categorical and grant-funded programs such as CalWorks, EOPS /NextUp, Upward Bound, Student Support Services, Disability Resource Center (DRC), Foster Youth / Guardian Scholars, Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and 100% of Student Conduct. The Dean of Students also serves on the RCC CARES (Behavior Intervention Team). Job Description Basic Function:BASIC FUNCTION: Under the supervision of the area Vice President, provides leadership in the identification, development, and implementation of student services programs to support student success to achieve academic goals. PROVIDES WORK OR LEAD DIRECTION TO: May supervise and direct Secretary, Matriculation Specialist, Assessment Specialist, Assessment Testing Coordinator, Coordinators of Student Activities, Director of Health Services, Director of EOPS and the Director of Upward Bound. Education:EDUCATION: Master's degree is required. Doctorate is preferred. Degrees must be from an accredited institution. Experience:EXPERIENCE: One year or more of formal training, internship, or leadership experience directly related to this administrative assignment, and successful experience in the supervision of student services programs are required. KNOWLEDGE OF: administrative procedures and practices at the college level. Knowledge of and/or experience in administrating/supervising Extended Opportunity Programs and Services, state Matriculation Program, and other Specially funded Programs and Grants. ABILITY TO: initiate and implement programs and services for students; be creative and innovative in administering programs and services; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; work without close supervision, provide strong leadership and communications, motivational, interpersonal, and team building skills; motivate and work harmoniously with a student body of diverse and multi-cultural backgrounds. Duties and Responsibilities:REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: 1. Ensures that the campus offers a comprehensive array of quality student services which support and enhance the campus instructional programs and which promote student success. 2. Assists in general administration of the campus; directs and supervises, in consultation with the appropriate District dean, director or coordinator, the delivery of Counseling & Support Services, Student Activities, Admission & Records, Student Financial Services, Health Services, Safety & Police, and other campus student services programs. 3. Evaluates classified and academic student services employees and other employees as necessary in areas of responsibility assigned to the incumbents; and conducts performance evaluations of assigned staff. 4. Promotes an environment conducive to learning by administering the District Student Conduct Policy. 5. Develops and coordinates campus outreach programs which promote campus and College programs to a diverse community. 6. Coordinates enrollment services at community-based instructional sites. 7. Assists in interpreting College programs to the general public through the development of community contacts and active participation in community activities. 8. Participates in local, regional, and state activities to promote Riverside Community College District and the community college movement. 9. Develops and schedules a comprehensive program of student support services, which meet the needs of students enrolled in day, evening, and weekend programs. 10. Determines the student services needs of the campus in consultation with appropriate student services District deans, directors, and coordinators, and recommends annual budget parameters for the student services program and, upon approval of a final budget, supervises the allocation and expenditure of budgeted funds. 11. Assists in the development of programmatic and facility master plans for the campus. 12. Maintains open communication and provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to participate in decision making and to consult on matters of College-wide interest. 13. Works in cooperation with the student services area deans and directors to maintain and improve programs designed to enhance the educational experience for Riverside Community College District students. 14. Coordinates the Student Services area with other College functions including Academic Affairs, Business Services, Information Services, Planning and Development, Institutional Research, and Human Resources. 15. Maintains an understanding of current ideas, trends, and practices pertaining to the areas of responsibility for this position. 16. Performs other related responsibilities as may be assigned. No appointment or series of appointments may exceed a period of two years. Paid vacation, 22 days annually; and paid accruable sick leave, 12 days annually. A pro-rata reduction will be made for employees working less than full-time and less than 12 months. The District provides a health and welfare benefit package for employees and legal qualifying dependents. The work location and assignment within a job classification is determined by the District and may be subject to change.
