The Surgical Data analyst will be responsible for receiving real world electronic health record data exported from multiple health systems and will be responsible for data transformation and normalization for the Research Evaluating Vagal Excitation Anatomical Links (REVEAL) and the Combat Wound Infection Evidence Based Medicine (CWI-EBM), two large funded multi-site clinical trials. REVEAL's focus is to collect and maintain a âœfirst in kindâ comprehensive dataset of clinical and biologic longitudinal data for vagus nerve stimulation which can have major scientific and clinical impact for a multitude of health conditions. This hire will be involved in innovative discussions, study planning and analyses. They will also integrate biological lab data and structured data collected using the study's REDcap database into the final study database known as the âœVagabaseâ . The Data Analyst will report jointly to the (1) Director and (2) Project Manager of the REVEAL Data and Analysis Core (DAC). They will also be responsible for the transfer for the Vagabase and any relevant metadata and code to the NIH's public data repository. CWI-EBM's focus will be to develop the first ever joint military/civilian database for patients and extremity wound trauma. This database will be analysis/AI-ready and the Data Analyst will report directly to the University of Minnesota site-PI for data.

Principle Duties
Document project requirements, implementation plan, execution, and delivery (30%)
Carefully document the process for and code generated for the delivery of the transformed and analysis-read dataset for the REVEAL study.
Ensure that all study activities meet various compliance standards, IRB, and data security.
Follow standard operating procedures and adhere to REVEAL study team policies and best practices.
Discuss and provide feedback related to opportunities for enhancement with team management.
Query, extract, integrate, format, and deliver data as per study needs (70%)
Write code to query raw data and perform data transformation of EHR data extractions using SQL.
Map data to common data model to facilitate generalizability.
Integrate in biological lab data and structured data collected using the study's REDcap database into the final study database.
Work closely with other team members to review execution plans and validate results.
Work with and support data transformation needs for the downstream data scientist team including any iterative modifications of variables generated and data validation.
Facilitate regular transfers of a de-identified copy of the study database to external public repositories as required by the NIH.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Required qualifications:
BA/BS plus at least 2 years of relevant analytical or quantitative work experience, or a combination of education and work experience to equal at least six years.
Experience must include a minimum of three years of experience querying, formatting, and analyzing healthcare data such as inpatient/outpatient clinical records, labs, medications, provider data, and/or claims.
Experience working with messy real-world electronic health record data.
Experience working independently in a rapidly changing scientific environment.
Proficiency with query development and report writing.
Demonstrated experience with T-SQL and PL/SQL programming languages.
Knowledge of healthcare data management concepts and regulatory/compliance policies (HIPAA, IRB, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of clinical data and healthcare code sets and ontologies (ICD9/ICD10, CPT, NDC/RXNorm, LOINC, etc).
Epic Clarity certification
Familiarity with the OMOP common data models and data integration activities.
Research experience is a plus.
Exposure to statistical modelling and/or advanced analytics using R or Python.
