Summary:
Assist Department Management to provide leadership in all areas of Indirect Tax, lead designated projects and tasks, and be resource for all areas of Indirect Tax responsibilities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide tax and general assistance to Indirect Tax Department Management
Supervise preparation of and notice responses to sales and use tax compliance, business licenses, personal property tax, Secretary of State, unclaimed property, and/or reportable cash transaction filings.
Complete and/or review accrual account reconciliations to verify accurate tax reporting and process journal entries to maintain account cleanliness, as needed.
Lead team in appropriate research and responses to customer exemption certificate and tax write-off requests and related reporting.
Establish processes to routinely review and update various areas of Indirect Tax responsibility including tax matrices, exemption certificates, system updates, compliance reporting accuracy; ensure follow through of established processes.
Gather, retain, and review data related to jurisdictional audits; present and interact directly with auditor, as requested.
Mentor direct reports: establish goals and provide guidance to achieve set goals; support and encourage professional development.
Provide tax guidance to internal and external customers, and communicate with state and local taxing jurisdictions to answer general questions and resolve tax notices.
Direct requirements for tax system maintenance, including jurisdictional setups, product taxability, and customer resale and exemption certificates.
Manage seasonal and project assignments, as requested.
Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position; periodic overtime should be expected.
Additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree required, in the area of Accounting or Finance preferred; tax research experience preferred; prior supervisory experience preferred.
Knowledge of accounting and tax concepts and principles.
Solid oral and written communication skills for internal and external interactions.
Ability to take ownership of and appropriately prioritize all assigned projects and tasks, and to provide same guidance to direct reports.
Excellent time management, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficient computer skills, particularly Microsoft Office products; direct experience with various ERP and billing systems; Avalara sales tax software experience a plus.
Must be willing to work overtime outside of the normal scheduled workday, including occasional weekends, to meet deadlines and complete special projects
Must be able to handle a high volume/large variety of work within provided deadlines.
