Equipment Operator - Military Veterans

The incumbent operates sweepers, backhoes, loaders, bulldozers, grader, dump trucks, rollers, skid-steer loaders and tractor trailers as part of a crew performing maintenance.
Keeps supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered and identify and reports safety, environmental and other work requirements for resolution.


Responsibilities

  • Performs flexible and rigid pavement preservation on streets, parking lots and airfield; removes damaged pavement, place and compact hot/cold mix asphalts, place and finish concrete, route/seal cracks and joints.
  • Performs wintertime snow and ice removal by utilizing snow removal equipment, plowing and chemical application.
  • Performs minor emergency repairs to equipment.
  • Performs debris removal, erosion control, floodgate, bridge, and culvert maintenance.
  • Performs maintenance, installation, and repair of permanent and temporary signage.
  • Responsible for completing daily work/labor order log documenting inspections, maintenance and repair information, to include work performed, materials used, and hours worked on each assigned work order.
  • Reads and interprets simple plans, diagrams, and specifications, verbal and written instructions, may include interpreting grade and slope stakes.
  • Performs installation, repairs and maintains all chain link fencing.
  • Adheres to proper security practices, foreign object damage procedures, and airfield driving regulations, as applicable.
  • Interfaces with customers and responsible for customer feedback, as applicable.
  • Operates motor vehicles in accordance with company vehicle policies.
  • Complies with applicable federal, state, United States Air Force (USAF) and
  • Occupational Safety & Health Administration {OSHA) environmental laws and regulations.
  • Follows information directives; Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), policies and procedures, and contract requirements.
  • Complies with health and safety rules and procedures; performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
  • Incumbent will at all times wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as determined by position and duties.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Accurate, timely, and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Works harmoniously with customers and fellow co-workers.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of all Akima related matters.
  • Accountable for assigned tools, materials and equipment.
  • Cleanliness and safety of shop and work areas.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency.
  • Must have experience in operating large equipment required.
  • Must have a valid state driver's license, acceptable driving record and proof of valid insurance.
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years' experience in a construction or road maintenance environment and snow removal.
  • Must maintain all necessary licenses/IDs/certifications.
  • Must have the ability to solve problems and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must have the ability to adapt to changes in technology and applicable facility/infrastructure codes and standards.
  • Must be familiarity with facility/infrastructure codes and standards, as applicable.
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional and courteous manner in diverse situations.
  • Must be proficient and knowledgeable of a variety of hand and power tools.
  • Must be able to:  read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Must be available to work other shifts as directed, to include weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualification:

  • Four (4) years' experience in a construction or road maintenance environment and snow removal.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Military experience.
  • Previous experience working on a military installation.
  • Experience working on Tinker facilities.
  • Familiarity with military-specific facility/infrastructure codes and standards, as applicable

This position may currently and/or in the future be required to obtain and retain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) and/or Personal Clearance (PCL) as required by law or contract.
