What You Will Do

The Nuclear Material Control and Accountability group is seeking an energetic, experienced, interactive, customer-focused professional to provide operational and programmatic support to the Laboratory's tamper-indicating device (TID) program. The selected candidate will need to be a problem-solver, able to anticipate challenges or obstacles and tactfully resolve them with minimal supervision.

This position will be filled at the Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1/2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Material Control & Accountability Specialist 1 $69,500 - $110,300

• Effective communication skills to work with internal and external stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to problems.
• Proven problem-solving skills, analytical skills and the ability to execute decisions consistent with regulatory drivers.
• Proven experience with Microsoft Access and Excel for report generation, presentation and trending.
• Basic understanding in tracking, trending and restocking TID inventory; assisting in TID audits
• Engagement with vendors related to TID procurements.
• Assist in the development, providing, and enhancing institutional training for TID users.

Material Control & Accountability Specialist 2 $83,900 - $136,600

• Demonstrated experience in producing written documentation requiring a high level of attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of nuclear material policies, practices and procedures.
• Experience in conceptualizing and communicating major elements of a complex process to a diverse audience using technical and non-technical methods.
• Demonstrated ability to engage with vendors related to TID procurements.
• Demonstrated ability to provide guidance and oversight of TID activities across the Laboratory.
• Demonstrated experience in developing and providing, and enhanced institutional training for TID users and other LANL employees.

Education/Experience at lower level:

Position requires an Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience; or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields

Education/Experience at higher level:

Position requires an Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience directly related to the occupation. Additional consideration may be given to professionally recognized training and certifications in related fields

Desired Qualifications:

• Technical proficiency with the application of LANL nuclear material accountability system (LAMCAS).
• Basic Instructor Training (BIT) trained / certified.
• Comprehensive techniques related to protection management and controls
• Comprehensive understanding of safeguards and security of Nuclear Material

Essential Job Functions (can perform with or without reasonable accommodation) : Lifting up to 50 pounds, reading vision, distance vision, ability to speak, ability to hear in a normal range (500 to 3000 htz), sitting, walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending.

Work Environment: Potential exists that this position can support a shift work schedule.

Work Location : The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations areat the discretion of management.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.

Clearance: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.

*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.

HRP: This position is subject to the requirements of the DOE Human Reliability Program as specified in 10 Code of Federal Regulation, Part 712, §712.11. These requirements include on going drug and alcohol testing, as well as periodic medical and psychological evaluations.

New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
