Position Number: 002415 Department: College of Humanities & Earth and Social Sciences (Col) Employment Type: Permanent - Full-time Months Per Year: 9 Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in the field of African American History beginning August 11, 2025. The salary range for this position is $77,000-80,000. Within a 2-2 teaching load, the successful candidate will work to establish a strong scholarly reputation and demonstrate a commitment to collaborative and community-engaged work. They will contribute to the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in History as well as a US History course in the general education program; as well as service to the department, college, university, and the profession. Minimum Experience / Education: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. Preferred Education Skills and Experience: Requirements: Applicants are required to have a Ph.D in History or a related field by date of hire and show potential for professional development as a scholar and teacher, and a commitment to serving UNC Charlotte students of all backgrounds. A research and teaching focus on African American History is required. We are especially interested in applications from historians doing innovative work in one or more of the following areas: gender, sexuality, LGBTQ+, race, politics, military, law, film, digital history, medicine and health, or foreign policy.
