Shipping Supervisor - Military Veterans

Hitachi Energy is looking for Shipping Supervisorto join our production team, located in Alamo, TN.

The Shipping Supervisor will coordinate and execute compliance to shipping schedules, along with facilitating the safe and high-quality on time delivery of customer orders. Responsible for organizing, leading, training and overseeing the day-to-day operations in shipping and Integrated Logistics Service (ILS). Also responsible for reporting using tier two accountability board, developing team members and leading continuous improvement activities using lean manufacturing tools, including 5-S and leadership standard work.

The environment is constantly changing and will demand on-going attention to customer requirements and real time communication of service issues with shippers and receivers. The position requires making decisions which impact cost and service while meeting customer requirements as you work to continuously improve transport and logistics operations.

How you'll make an impact:

Environmental Health & Safety Management:

  • Organizes & holds safety meetings to carry out safety education, risk assessments, accident investigations & other related safety activities.
  • Coaches team members on adherence to safety procedures, including correct use of PPE, daily safety checks and workplace inspections.
  • Identifies, coordinates, and resolves safety issues and facilitates Behavior-Based Safety
  • Assists EHS in drafting of Safety & Prevention procedures.


Quality Management:
  • Ensures team members adhere to standard operation procedures.
  • Analyzes the cause of quality issues & freight claims suitable action plans, including containment and preventative corrective actions.


Operations Management:
  • Allocates shift's team members according to the shipping schedule, training matrix, and generating reports and updating the tier two accountability board.
  • Prepare and update daily, weekly, and monthly logistics reports which show status of shipments and proactively re-plan as needed to ensure on time delivery.
  • Track shipments utilizing carriers web portals till final delivery.
  • Continuously tracks team performance and resolves any operations or shipping abnormalities.
  • Partnering with Supply Chain and Customer Success teams, ensure customer orders picked, and shipped on time to customer promised to ship date.
  • Provides timely and effective feedback to help team members to strengthen specific skills needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem.
  • Escalates issues and/or successes of the shipping department to the operation manager as necessary.
  • Implements the cyclical & monthly audit on FG inventory and maintain strong dock report in shipping.
  • Analyzes all inventory discrepancy & develops improvement action plans.
  • Usage of a Transportation Management System (TMS) to execute domestic shipments.
  • Work with the CoE Team and customer service to resolve all customer freight claims.
  • Assists in the trouble shooting and resolving IT issues, using MYIS service.


5S Management & continuous Improvement:
  • Organizes & leads the team's execution of the 5S plans, including housekeeping, making problems visible and standardizing activity for all Team Members.
  • Develops the team's 5S improvement plan.
  • Supports other Team Leaders' 5S planning & development.
  • Leads the implementation of the shipping continuous improvement plan.
  • Initiates, develops, leads, and implements the continuous improvement plans.


Employee Development:
  • Provides standard & specialized training for new, transferred replacement or returned team members.
  • Trains & develops multi-skilled Team Members.
  • Trains & develops backup per each job in shipping.

Your Background:
  • Bachelor's degree in business or related field.
  • Candidate must already have work authorization that would permit them to work for Hitachi Energy in the United States.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in shipping; logistics is preferred.
  • Export experience strongly preferred
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Advanced desktop computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook required.
  • Basic understanding of TMS, LTL requirement, hazardous transportation, would be beneficial.
  • Proven ability to understand shipping documentation (i.e., export document, CI).
  • Have proven experience working with logistics suppliers (freight forwarders, ocean carriers, custom broker).
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional working relationships with customers and logistics providers.
  • Experience in production scheduling, distribution, materials, and inventory planning is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently with a sense of urgency.
  • Team player with flexibility in working different shifts.
  • Ability to prepare routine reports and correspondence.
  • Advanced desktop computer skills including Microsoft Excel and Outlook required.
  • Understanding of lean manufacturing, waste elimination, problem-solving & 5S
