Director, Veterans Resource Center University of California Riverside Job Number: 31313004 Full/Part Time: Full Time Schedule: 8AM - 5PM Salary: $64,300 - $89,300 Position Information The Director for the Veteran Resource Center is responsible for planning, developing, implementing and assessing programs designed to support the academic wellness and campus integration of student veterans. The Director manages a varied and complex set of co-curricular services and programs intended to advance knowledge of and awareness about UCR's diverse veteran community and will develop new programming that will address issues of diversity, equity and inclusion. The incumbent works independently to analyze and/or assess the unit's needs; make recommendations for changes and improvements; independently implements recommended changes; establish operational, programmatic unit policy and procedures. Serves as a subject matter expert pertaining to state and federal matters that impact student veterans. This position will supervise the program coordinator and ensure that there is quality programming and collaborative partnerships across campus and the surrounding community. The Director advocates for the well-being of students, with a specific focus on student veterans. The Director will be highly visible on campus as the subject matter expert to students, staff, faculty. This position regularly advises campus leaders and student groups on a wide range of issues for student veterans including academic achievement, high impact student services, campus climate issues, and the complex landscape impacting veteran students. The salary range for the Director, Veterans Resource Center is $64,300 - $114,300 annually. The expected pay scale for this position is up to $89,300 annually. We base placement within these ranges on the individual's qualifications as they relate to this position. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Education Education Requirements Degree Requirement Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Master's degree. Preferred Experience Experience Requirement 6 - 10 years of related experience. Required 2 years of directly supporting college student veterans Required Minimum Requirements Advanced abilities in project management, problem identification and reasoning skills. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving, identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance. Advanced knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Advanced ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Advanced knowledge of Student Affairs/Student Life specialization. Ability to collaborate with an array of campus and community partners. Knowledge of strategic planning approaches. Knowledge of Veterans Services, the obstacles student Veterans encounter in higher education as well as the how this student population enriches the campus community Advance knowledge of best practices for student Veteran success Ability to work autonomously to resolve issues and research emerging best practices. Can balance the needs of students in alignment with university policies and practices. Act as lead when dealing with emerging campus climate issues and seek to resolve and generate solutions. Preferred Qualifications Advanced knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs and knowledge of University and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. Familiarity with issues focused on free speech in higher education.
