Groundskeeper The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California. ABOUT THE POSITION : Under general supervision, the Groundskeeper position performs a variety of duties related to the groundskeeping operations on The Claremont Colleges Services' property. This position performs routine and non-routine duties; assists with the maintenance of outdoor lighting, walkways, patios, signs, irrigation systems, and establishes and maintains a variety of plant life. The Groundskeeper is expected to safely use and maintain all related groundskeeping equipment and perform a variety of tasks requiring physical fitness, dexterity, safe work practices, and a knowledge of groundskeeping chemicals, methods, procedures, supplies and equipment. Mow lawns, rake leaves, and sweep walkways. Plant, cultivate, fertilize, prune, trim, weed, and otherwise maintain the condition and appearance of lawns, flowers, ground covers, shrubs, and trees. Prepare soil for planting by digging and turning. Utilize powered blowers, lawn mowers, edgers, hedge trimmers, and other powered equipment. Under close supervision, apply weed control chemicals. Set out bait and/or traps for gophers, ground squirrels and the like, and dispose of carcasses in accordance with proper procedures. Assist with graffiti removal. Maintain groundskeeping and related equipment. Clean and maintain all non-powered equipment. Clean building roofs and gutters. Remove and dispose of trash and other debris. Maintain inventory of all assigned tools, supplies and equipment. Participate in composting and mulching activities. Participate in marking of athletics fields. Report repairs as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS The following qualifications are required to perform the essential functions of this position, or the individual must be able to demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed (with or without reasonable accommodation) using other qualifications not listed below. Education : High school diploma or the equivalent in a combination of education, training, and additional experience beyond the minimum required. Experience : At least three (3) years of paid experience in groundskeeping or landscaping work. Certifications/Licenses: A valid driver's license and a driving record acceptable to the TCCS automobile liability insurer. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Knowledge of maintenance, use, safe operation, and repair of cleaning supplies, tools, and equipment used to perform job duties. Ability to learn proper use of fire extinguishers. Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb, push, pull, stoop, twist, stretch, lift up to 50 pounds from ground to waist level without assistance, climb ladders up to twenty feet with assistance and up to ten feet unassisted, and be able to work on feet for prolonged periods of time. Ability to effectively and efficiently clean and maintain an assigned grounds area within a predetermined time schedule. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions in the English language. Ability to work productively and effectively without continuous supervision. Be available for overtime work and to be on-call. Be able to wear protective clothing and equipment as required by the tasks being performed. Be able to work in a safe manner, follow proper procedures, and comply with Cal/OSHA and OSHA requirements as applicable to work. Effective and professional communication skills with a diverse population of team members, contract personnel, and other internal and external contacts. Present a neat and professional appearance and be capable of performing all tasks and presenting oneself in a manner that reflects favorably on CFS and TCCS, and of promoting the interests of these organizations throughout The Claremont Colleges and TCCS. Work Schedule : The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Will be added to an on-call rotation to include weekends. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the organization or business unit. COMPENSATION Pay : The hourly salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $23- $24.37 per hour.
