In response to the vibrant research community and the community's needs, St. John's University is opening a Venture Clinical Laboratory. This collaborative venture brings industry partners with the university's top research professionals, translating research into novel clinical tests.
Reports to:
The Clinical Assay Development Assistant Scientist reports directly to the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor.
Position Overview:
St. John's University researchers work to discover and bring life-changing discoveries and medicines to those who need them. We are looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world and support the mission of the University. You will join the Venture Clinical Laboratory team to develop novel molecular tests to aid in diagnosing various diseases. We seek an ambitious individual with strong research, clinical test development, and communication skills to contribute to highly visible research projects that will translate into clinical tests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform experiments and studies to support assay development and validation for NYSDOH LDT submissions.
- Aid in drafting and executing protocols and procedures to ensure robust, reproducible results suitable for clinical application.
- Help maintain all laboratory equipment including routine maintenance, coordinating repairs, instrument QC, and cleaning.
- Maintain clear and organized records of all laboratory activities.
- Coordinate the management of incoming inventory to ensure proper storage and documentation of materials.
- Follow all laboratory policies and procedures to maintain compliance with NYSDOH clinical laboratory standards.
Desired experience and skills:
- Experience in molecular biology techniques, such as qPCR and nucleic acid extraction.
- Proficiency in protocol development, validation, and troubleshooting.
- Experience working in a regulated laboratory environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Educational requirements:
M.S. in Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, or a related field.
In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual salary for this position is $65,000. St. John's University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
This position may be relocated to any of St. John's University's physical locations at any time.
