Primary Purpose

Provide deep technical expertise to support delivery and maintenance of IT solutions. Provide IT teams and business personnel with technology solutions by weighing advantages of technology standards, market availability of products, and risks and benefits of technology to meet business/IT needs. Significant customer engagement, work planning, project management services provided to IT customers. Expected to work under minimal supervision.

  • Manage lifecycle of Microsoft SQL Server databases on-premises and in the cloud.
  • Build, configure and maintain database servers, processes, configuration, patches, and backups.
  • Provide expertise to effectively monitor database platform health and performance.
  • Maintain database inventory information to ensure accuracy of configuration management DB.
  • Support the production release management system for documenting, planning, and implementing IT changes.
  • Plan, coordinate, communicate and implement database patching activities for database platforms.
  • Refine, script, and automate regular processes for continuous improvement, track issues, and document changes.
  • Perform analysis for query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support and participate in on call rotation for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Provide technical database expertise and/or solution delivery support for documenting and maintaining performance and reliability of database solutions.
  • Maintain and enhance engagement with business and IT partners to sustain service levels and high availability of database services. Visible and accessible to clients providing guidance for how to successfully request database services.
  • Coordinating and implementing planned database and database infrastructure changes, refreshes, and upgrades for business and/or IT clients.

 

Candidates must reside in one of the following states - IL, PA, NJ, DE, MD or Washington DC.

 

Note: This is a hybrid position (in-office with remote flexibility). Employees are required to be in office at least three days per week (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday).

Primary Duties

  • Undertakes complex database projects requiring specialized technical knowledge. Makes well thought-out decisions on complex or ambiguous database issues. (20%)
  • Provide technical database expertise and/or solution delivery support for maintaining performance and reliability of database solutions. (20%)
  • Maintain and enhance engagement with business and IT partners to determine requirements in support of service levels and project commitments. (20%)
  • Build and maintains knowledge of new technologies or technology opportunities and assists in development of analysis for business and/or IT clients. (20%)
  • Participate in relevant IT Architecture Domain Groups to appropriately review and plan the introduction of new database technologies. Ensure appropriate implementation of technology both within the production and the development environments. Establishes and communicates common technical goals/direction for team. (10%)
  • Provide performance evaluations, career development feedback, and recognition. Acts as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced staff. (10%)

Job Scope

  • Maintain deep knowledge of database technology and its application across Exelon
  • Promote knowledge via seminars, presentations and publications within IT and Exelon
  • Participate in technological innovation to drive new business opportunities and solve complex business problems
  • As assigned, manage working relationship with outsourcing partners

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related discipline and typically 4-7 years hands-on experience in one or more database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server) or in lieu of degree, 6-9 years combination of education and relevant work experience.
  • Broad technical expertise with deep technical knowledge in one or more database technologies (DB2, Oracle, SQL Server).
  • Excellent communications skills -Able to effectively communicate highly technical information in nontechnical terminology (written and verbal)
  • Understanding of change management principles associated with new technology implementations.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Understands and applies project management principles when leading and directing work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience administrating Microsoft SQL databases on-prem (physical and virtual) and in Microsoft Azure.
  • Broad technical expertise with deep technical knowledge in current versions of Microsoft SQL Server, SQL failover clustering, always on availability group, and database replication technologies on-premises and in cloud hosting providers such as Azure.
  • General RDBMS, Database tuning, SQL tuning, Database Statistics, Database upgrades, Data Guard.
  • Solid working level knowledge: Microsoft Windows Server OS, SAN and NAS storage.
  • Experience scripting SQL DBA activities with PowerShell.
  • Excellent communications skills - Able to effectively communicate, diagram and document highly technical information in non-technical terminology (written and verbal).
  • Experience scripting Windows and SQL Server
