Who will you be working with?
You will be working with our Methods team to provide quality services to design and implement manufacturing processes that guarantee safety, quality, customer satisfaction and competitiveness. You will interact daily with the line leader, manpower and quality engineers.
How will you make a difference?
As a member of the manufacturing engineering team at Wabtec Passenger Transit, you will be responsible for:
- Develop, implement and document robust and cost-effective manufacturing processes, work instructions and methods in accordance with product specifications, safety and quality standards, and customer demand.
- Lead the design of required tooling and accessories.
- Evaluate design and engineering changes, determine production feasibility, and approve release to manufacturing.
- Recommend and implement improvements in production processes, methods and controls, using the principles of lean manufacturing.
What do we want to know about you?
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial/Mechanical Engineering or a related field desired. Equivalent education and experience required.
- Five or more years Manufacturing experience in a leadership or technical role required.
- Industrial automotive paint experience required.
- Paint system experience Binks, Graco, pressure pots, and delivery systems required.
- Understanding of manual spray guns and application required.
- Use of paint quality tools required.
- Understanding of industrial paint booths required.
- Strong knowledge of lean principles and the ability to apply them in order to establish and/or improve processes.
- Understanding of visual paint inspection methods.
- Strong mechanical knowledge and mechanical problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills, with the specific ability to act as a team leader and interact at all layers within the organization.
- Experience in a manufacturing environment with a good understanding of plant operations.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude is preferred.
- Strong lean manufacturing skills.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and inspire others.
- Strong problem-solving and customer service skills.
- Possibility of traveling, when necessary, minimal.
What will your typical day look like?
- Start the day by planning your scheduled meetings, projects and assigned tasks.
- Review internal communication [email, teams] and respond or resolve.
- Early in the morning, meet with the operations leader and the quality engineer to review daily performance, new issues or problems to be resolved and communicate the progress of pending activities.
- Attend and participate in the daily production meeting.
- Dedicate planned time to ensure your projects move forward and complete assigned tasks.
- Dedicate a large part of your time to walking, observing and supporting your processes.
- If necessary, use the company's different systems and applications to document the process, resolve problems or develop improvements.
- Arrive on time for your meetings and you will participate proactively, professionally and purposefully.
- Spend time reviewing the key performance indicators of your processes to identify trends, risks or opportunities.
- Send progress reports on your tasks and projects.
- You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
- Steering/coordination of external personnel /service providers
- This Role is carried out responsibly in factual cooperative collaboration with supervisors, employees, involved and affected departments - in compliance with existing guidelines, standards, and regulations.
- Assumption of special tasks corresponding to the skills and duties of the job holder
- Coordination of related departments, R&D and operators with focus on the implementation of suggestions for the product design according to production requirements and the identification of optimization measures
- Processing of planning orders, improvement proposals and change requests including ongoing revision.
- Realization of ramp-up to series operation
- Optimization of series process materials and techniques in terms of quality, costs and process reliability, including recycling and disposal
- Preparation of offers comparative analyses and purchase orders
- Creation of layouts, specifications, time schedules and investment plans, following economic standards
- Approval of technical specifications of production equipment and clarification of technical issues with technical contractors as well as suppliers of Paint-Shop equipment
- Planning of equipment as well as determination of material supply / delivery
- Maintain and create an ergonomic and requirement‐oriented work environment in the Paint Shop as well as ensuring environmental protection, fire protection measures and work safety.
- Creation of production plans for all work sequences according to the valid time and quality finding procedures. Ensuring and controlling the defined measures and coordinating the activities of the technical contractors
- Responsible for the process engineering planning of pre-treatment, surface preparation, and all ovens throughout in the Paint Shop production processes. Elaboration of these scopes into layout plans, considering the requirements of all departments.
- Development and creation as well as implementation of planning concepts and projects including the corresponding design specifications or general conditions for the Paint-Shop department. Ensuring of defined measures and development of techniques or processes including analysis and evaluation of alternative solutions under consideration of economic standards
- Provide technical support throughout the production paint process.
- Identify, analyze, and solve manufacturing process issues and equipment-related problems to continuously improve key business metrics
- Scope, order, and assure proper implementation of new processes & equipment with Manufacturing Engineering manager and Manufacturing Supervisor.
- Quote, develop processing standards, and assist in new product launches
- Provide technical support to technicians and work teams and serve as technical resource for the paint department
- Direct cross-functional paint process improvement projects with the assistance of operations, maintenance, and controls team members
- Provide a critical link between the paint department and other process partners in areas such as product design, assembly, maintenance, safety, quality, etc
- Create work instructions for specific products and processes as assigned in coordination with Manufacturing Engineering manager and Manufacturing Supervisor.
- Identify and troubleshoot process, material or equipment problems, recommend solutions to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate the development, assembly and/or procurement of new tooling or modification of existing fixtures and equipment to ensure efficient production methods.
- Conduct hands on training of manufacturing employees regarding products, processes, equipment and tooling.
- Evaluate the entire process flow -- part presentation, tooling/equipment needs, manpower assignments, work processes - create and present workflow designs to improve manufacturing operations.
- Lead company safety programs as assigned; perform inspections, attend safety meetings, conduct training and maintain documentation as required.
- Provide administrative support to Manufacturing Supervisor, and Quality Leader ensuring that employee records and requests are properly maintained in the Quality Management System.
- Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.
Training and Job knowledge Requirements
- Minimum 5 years' leadership or technical experience in production/manufacturing role required.
- Strong computer skills required; Epicor, MS Office, Paylocity, and Engineering software.
- Must possess strong communication & organizational skills.
- Ability to read and analyze technical documents required.
- Must have demonstrated leadership skills.
- Following established procedures, must have ability to prioritize several simultaneous projects.
- Must be able to work with people across all levels of the organization.
