Summary
This position provides technical digital OT architecture direction to the nuclear fleet. The position supports fleet engineering functions including traditional Digital Process Systems functions, modernization project technical leadership and I&C lifecycle management within the Nuclear Generation Department (NGD). This includes assignment of digital based components, systems and/or software for purposes of establishing fleet architectural requirements and configuration rules, providing technical support to installation base, tracking associated license and contract renewals and providing testing and commissioning support to new installations as well as other related tasks. Duties include support of modernization initiatives requiring extensive collaboration with multiple generation stations both within nuclear and outside nuclear and outside Duke.
Individual will be required to pass site security access requirements including General Employee Training, Radiation Worker Training, Security Clearance checks, critical group and subject to the site's Fitness for Duty Program. Periodic travel will be required.
Responsibilities
- Serves as a subject matter expert on IT and OT technology and architecture design.
- Engaged and leader in external industry teams to ensure that nuclear OT architecture decisions are informed and aligned with best practices.

- Provides engineering/technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity in both inside as well as outside the scope of typical responsibility.
- Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities; decisions may affect the operations or results of the work group and may have some impact on major projects or department results.
- Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches related to well-defined problems or to analysis of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conducts engineering and related studies; completes non-routine engineering projects with minimal oversight with the ability to independently manage project schedules and interfaces; competent to design, operate and maintain systems with moderate impact on existing systems.
- Possesses and applies the fundamental concepts, practices and procedures; proficient in technical and analytical competencies necessary to handle assignments of increasing complexity.
- Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
- Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
- Effectively communicates with all levels of management in a professional manner.

- Maintenance of corporate DPS development systems.
- Contract technical owner for common digital platform contracts.
- Lead digitalization and modernization initiative deployment for the fleet.
Basic/Required Qualifications
Nuclear Engineer III
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
- 4-6 years of engineering experience
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
Sr Nuclear Engineer
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program
- A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
Additional Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise of computer networks (Ethernet, TCP/IP, UDP/IP, switches, routers, firewalls)
- Demonstrated expertise configuring servers, firewalls, switches, data diodes.
- Demonstrated experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
- Demonstrated expertise with virtualized environments using VMWare or Hyper-V
- Previous Nuclear Station work experience with Plant Monitoring System, Plant Security Computer, and Cyber Security Defensive Architecture
- Demonstrated platform and application engineering experience with Emerson or Westinghouse Ovation systems.
- Demonstrated experience with designing, configuring, and testing Tricon PLC systems.
- Demonstrated experienced network engineer, specifically for determining necessary architecture and configuring network devices.
- Demonstrated experience with configuration and administration of OSI-PI systems.
- Previous design engineering experience
- Demonstrated experience with interfacing to plant simulator systems.
- Demonstrated experience in developing software testing scripts, software test plan development, and software test execution.
- Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of customers in all levels of an organization.
- Demonstrated effective analytical, problem solving, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to deliver superior results within allocated time through effective prioritization, scheduling, planning and execution of assigned work.
- Demonstrated the ability to work as part of a team, be a self-starter, exercise flexibility, and take personal responsibility for assigned accountabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing processes, regulations, responsibilities, and work environments.
Specific Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
- Must be able to pass required Engineering Training Program requirements.
- Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
- Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
- This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
- Occasional overnight travel.
Working Conditions
- Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.
- Hybrid mobility classification with two days onsite and two days remote.
