The group led by Profs. Barone, Cutts, Gouskos, Heintz, Landsberg, LeBlanc, and Roloff plays a leading role in the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC. We are pursuing a comprehensive physics program at the LHC, focused on Higgs boson physics, measurements in the QCD and top quark sectors, as well as searches for new physics, including flavor anomalies. The group has been at the forefront of the development of AI/ML-based algorithms for a wide range of topics in HEP. We are major contributors and hold institutional responsibilities for the operations of the silicon strip tracker, the hadron calorimeter, and the R&D of Phase 2 HL-LHC upgrades of the CMS outer tracker and the endcap calorimeter. In addition, the group is also strongly involved in the R&D of future particle physics experiments, such as the Future Circular Collider (FCC). Brown University Physics Department seeks to recruit and retain a diverse workforce to maintain the excellence of the University and to offer our students richly varied disciplines, perspectives, viewpoints, and ways of knowing and learning. Brown University is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic global community. We offer challenging opportunities associated with our responsibilities in CMS and exciting possibilities in the analysis of the discovery-quality data of LHC Run 3. The successful applicant is expected to take a leading role in CMS physics analysis, our detector operations responsibilities, as well as the R&D for the CMS Phase 2 upgrade. A Ph.D. in experimental particle physics is required and experience with data analysis, AI applications, and/or hardware is preferred. The position is available immediately; For full consideration, applications should be submitted by December 15, 2024. The position will remain open until filled. The appointment is initially for one year and may be renewed, subject to performance, availability of funds, and the nature of the work. Interested candidates should submit a curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a brief statement of research interests, a list of publications, and arrange to have three letters of recommendation submitted online at http://apply.interfolio.com/158847 .
