JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor, the ADA/EEO Management Specialist under general supervision is responsible for the coordination of the development and administration of UTHSC's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliance and reasonable accommodation and equal employment opportunity/affirmative action plan and action-oriented programs. This position assists with conducting investigations of complaints of discrimination and harassment pursuant to federal, state, and local EEO laws and applicable University policies. This position has significant responsibilities in ensuring institutional compliance with state and federal affirmative action obligations while working with the Associate Vice Chancellor to partner with institutional leaders to develop and implement initiatives that promote the adoption of inclusive strategies to enhance the recruitment and retention of diverse populations, individuals with disabilities, and protected veterans.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

  1. Analyzes ADA accommodation requests to determine eligibility for accommodation in accordance with University policy and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  2. Manages the request for accommodations including providing complainants with procedural information, working with an ADA Review Team to assist managers/supervisors in the interactive process with faculty, staff, and visitors, and communicates accommodation decisions to complainants and management.
  3. Researches essential job functions and requirements of possible classifications, makes recommendations as to job restructuring, job transfer, equipment modification, work schedule change, etc. for employees and applicants with known physical, sensory, and mental disabilities.
  4. Serves as lead Office of Access and Compliance liaison to address intersecting accessibility and religious accommodation concerns with HR and Faculty Affairs involving faculty and staff as a strategy.
  5. Provides advice, direction, and assistance to departments to assure compliance with institutional policy and procedure and federal and state laws.
  6. Performs intake process for reports of discrimination and harassment that violate University policies; assists with conducting unbiased, trauma-informed investigations into allegations of harassment, discrimination, and civil rights violations.
  7. Counsels complainants and respondents on their rights, responsibilities, and options for resolving an alleged problem.
  8. Coordinates accommodations for religious beliefs and identification/promotion of inclusive spaces in addition to working with processes for educational adjustments under Title IX and identifies accessibility concerns around campus.
  9. Reviews requisitions, applicant pools, and hiring authorizations for postdoctoral hiring, professional jobs, and Finance.
  10. Delivers search committee training, search committee charges, interactive process training, plans programs/events for NDEAM and GAAD, and serves as a facilitator for the Workplace Certificate Program I & II and Educational Packages.
  11. Utilizes Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) for budget-related duties that include reconciling procurement card and department ledger, monitoring balances, and for procurement statements with receipts, procurement charges to evaluate for approval or justification with Internal Auditing, and tracking of departmental budget and expenditures (i.e., monthly ledger).
  12. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
