Associate Director of Student Counseling Services | Connecticut College - Military Veterans

This is a clinical and administrative position that requires psychological diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of student patients. Provides consultative, clinical, crisis, on-call and outreach services to the campus community. Coordinates all aspects of the training program. Provides supervision to the identity-focused counselors. Coordinates and provides identity-focused training for Student Counseling Services staff. Coordinates identity-focused mental health outreach efforts to the college community, including fostering partnerships with the Colleges Division of Equity and Inclusion, especially the Race and Ethnicity Programs and the Gender and Sexuality Programs. Works closely with the Director in ensuring the provision of high-quality clinical services to the students. Serves as a designee for the Director in their absence.

Perform psychological evaluations and clinical treatment as required; report and discuss results with the team and requesting clinicians.

Perform general and specialized clinical and outreach services in an affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive manner, consistent with risk reduction principles, and that promotes self-determination.

Ensure that documentation and productivity meet the standards set by the Student Counseling Services policies and procedures.

Assist the Director with administrative acts necessary at SCS .

Provide training and supervision to psychology practicum students/interns as needed.

Provide supervision to the Identity-focused Counselors.

Remain current in literature and treatment developments in the mental health field, especially college student mental health and identity-focused issues.

Receive professional development as required to maintain license.

Participate in on-call rotation for emergency and crisis situations that pertain to students and campus life.

Coordinate outreach efforts to the college community.

Collaborate with various stakeholders of the college community, including students, staff, faculty, offering specific expertise regarding all aspects of identity-focused issues.

Recommend and participate in the development of policies and procedures that may affect students.

Perform departmental research; manage and provide reports on department data.

Adhere to the ethical codes of conduct appropriate to professional bodies such as APA .

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA accredited program.

Completion of an APA approved internship.

Four years of postdoctoral professional experience, especially in an academic setting.

Licensed to practice in the state of Connecticut.

Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion; and multicultural competence in working with BIPOC , students from all economic classes, first generation students, LGBTQIA+ students, and international students.

Will have expertise in providing counseling that is affirmative, sex-positive, culturally sensitive, consistent with risk reduction principle. Will have expertise in counseling that promotes self-determination and addresses issues of culture, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, and the intersection of these aspects of identities with other categories such as race, class, and religion, as well as physical functioning.

Experience in providing clinical and administrative supervision for trainees.

Ability to manage multiple administrative tasks simultaneously.

Ability to effectively utilize an electronic medical records system.

Well organized, ability to work under pressure and as a member of a team.

Ability to collaborate and interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community.

High integrity needed to handle confidential information.

Travel as necessary to meet the requirement of the position.
