Responsible for monitoring and reporting on a portfolio of equity investments on projects utilizing New Markets Tax Credits (NMTC) that drive critical CRA results. Investments economically benefit and revitalize communities throughout the Truist footprint by creating or preserving new jobs and bringing new goods and services to underserved areas.
Following is a summary of the essential functions for this job. Other duties may be performed, both major and minor, which are not mentioned below. Specific activities may change from time to time.
- Manage the condition and performance of Truist Community Capital’s NMTC investments to ensure ongoing compliance with Bank credit terms, external stakeholder and IRS requirements. The assigned portfolio is typically comprised of complex investments with large portfolio exposures.
- Assist with the new investment closing process by updating and approving the Reverse Flow of Funds Financial projections; coordinating with other Community Development Entities (CDEs) to modify as needed.
- Work with Clients, CDEs and Servicers to capture necessary data points on the investment portfolio, while ensuring reporting to the Department of Treasury is filed timely and accurately.
- Serve as a subject matter expert to ensure NMTC program compliance requirements with Truist’s CDE are maintained, while proactively resolving any challenges.
- Perform in-person property inspections to assess the community impacts of projects within the portfolio.
- Coordinate with internal partners to facilitate the unwind of NMTC investments at the end of the compliance period.
- Perform portfolio asset management activities such as collecting and reviewing reporting and working with partners to field information gathering requests.
- Review annual Tax Returns for NMTC investments, and coordinate the annual audited financial statement preparation for Truist’s CDE
- Promote sound risk management as the first line of defense by ensuring compliance with Bank policies for credit, underwriting, operational, regulatory, tax, legal procedures and policies.
- Build and maintain strong internal and external working partnerships across multiple lines including: Relationship Management, Credit Risk, Portfolio Management, Wholesale Ops, CRE – Loan Admin, Controller’s, along with Clients and external service providers.
- Keep abreast of developments and current compliance regulations in the industry, while serving as a skilled resource into firsthand insight and trends.
Required Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or related field, and specific knowledge/experience with supporting educational background, or equivalent education and related training
- 8-10 years of related experience
- Knowledge or experience in strategic planning/projects/process management
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Proven negotiating skills
- Knowledge of accounting, financial, operational, regulatory and information technology systems
- Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background working within the NMTC industry
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
