The BNSF Railway's Network Strategy and Innovation team is tasked with developing strategic initiatives and pioneering innovative solutions for enhanced network efficiency and sustainability. This team is dedicated to optimizing the railway's infrastructure and operations to meet future freight transportation demands by analyzing market trends, customer needs, and technological advancements. Their work encompasses adopting advanced technologies for improved operational efficiency and exploring sustainable practices to reduce environmental impact. Through their forward-thinking approach and collaboration across departments, the Network Strategy and Innovation team is instrumental in guiding BNSF Railway towards long-term success and reliability in connecting communities and economies.
This position will be a part of intermodal analytics team that provides consultative services and develops data science-based smarts for Intermodal Hub Operations Applications. Key responsibilities may include:
This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in realizing the vision of BNSF’s Intermodal 2031 Strategy which includes the integration of data, processes, and emerging technologies between intermodal supply chain partners and within BNSF’s operation to enable operational efficiency, service leadership and customer stickiness.
- Working closely with BNSF employees, Contractors and Product Owners to achieve desired business outcomes.
- Working with product owners to define requirements, provide detailed estimates to assist with planning and determining priority.
- Breaking down requirements into clear executable tasks, deliverables and timelines
- Designing and creating data workflows and ETL processes for visualization usage using SQL and Python.
- Developing visualizations and reports using Power BI and/or Tableau
- Source and analyze data for insights that contribute to the support and development of various analytics projects.
- Provide regular updates to business partners at manager and director level—or above.
- Collaborate closely with team members and other departments to complete projects.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree with preference in Data Science, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Information Systems, or a related discipline or equivalent relevant work experience.
- 2 years of experience in IT Business Analysis (or related) functions, with accountability for leading requirements.
- Proficient experience with SQL, Python and PowerBI.
- Highly proficient in requirement gathering and documentation and business process modeling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Familiarity with TS systems used to support Intermodal
- Strong data visualization tools, report writing, and data analytic skills.
- Familiarity with Azure Databricks or other cloud environments
- Working experience with programming languages such as SAS.
- Familiar with data science knowledge such Machine Learning or Mathematical Optimization
