Objective/Program Overview
The purpose of this internship is to provide interns with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to transition to full time employment as a United Airlines Talent Development professional. The training program is designed to provide new employees with the opportunity to learn, the people, the process and the culture. Through this process they will also demonstrate their skills, which will allow United Airlines to better understand what developmental training is needed. (Note: The objective of the program is to provide full time employment to all interns who meet training objectives and receive positive performance appraisals. However, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.)
Job Description:
Analyst – Talent Development is responsible for developing and executing integrated talent, leadership, culture, and organizational strategy in support of our business goals. This team will ensure the right talent, skills and supporting capabilities are in place to drive United’s continued success. This role will play a pivotal role in shaping our organization by designing, implementing, managing, and evaluating career development programs, and assisting with talent management initiatives. This will require and utilize a foundation of career development including project management and early career programming in support of United’s journey to be a skills-first organization.
Training Specifics
On the Job Training: The training program is designed to provide interns with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to transition into full time employment with United Airlines as an Analyst – Talent Development. Interns will receive a combination of on the job, classroom setting and computer-based training. Interns who demonstrate satisfactory completion of training objectives and receive positive performance reviews are considered for full-time employment at one of United Airline’s offices. The training is scheduled for 680 hours but may be modified, with approval, to meet individual service members’ training timeline. Training objectives include:
- Onboarding and New Employee Training: (32 hours)
- Introduction and orientation meetings with Staff, Management and Leadership (30 hours)
- Career Development. (100 hours)
- Program Management. (100 hours)
- HR Policies. (100 hours)
- Coaching and Feedback. (100 hours)
- Content Development. (100 hours)
- Internal and External Communications. (100 hours)
- Performance Management (100 hours)
- Employment Skills Professional Development Seminars: Described below. (18 hours)
Professional Development: To enable all candidates to have long term, successful post-military careers, United provides employment skill training and professional development coaching for all participating interns. This portion of the program includes participation in professional development seminars, close work with mentors and practical applications to ensure all interns are armed with the requisite knowledge skills and abilities to develop and manage a successful civilian career after military service. Developmental topics include:
- Creating resumes targeted to specific opportunities in specific fields of employment.
- Leveraging social media to effectively network in the digital environment for career success.
- Development of a coherent personal brand to effectively market the intern to potential employers.
- Use of digital and online tools for targeted job searches and networking.
- Development of skills necessary to secure, prepare for and succeed at job interviews and subsequent salary negotiations.
Analyst – Talent Development Key Responsibilities
- Assist in developing and refining employee talent management processes
- Manage career development programming
- Drive meaningful employee engagement through programs and touchpoints
- Support the implementation of various talent management tools and technology
- Ensure all programs are compliant with internal and external policies and procedures
- Develop career development content and assets to be used for managed programs
- Collaborate with all internal and external stakeholders to drive program success
- Organize talent management and programmatic details in a digestible format
- Create and send reports on program progress and obstacles
- Gain buy-in from stakeholders on talent management initiatives
- Research and stay updated on newest talent management trends and techniques
- Stay updated on all regulatory and compliance requirements for development programs
- Assist in the creation and execution of performance management tasks
Skills, Requirements, & Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 3 or more years HR experience, preferably as a Program Coordinator or Talent Development
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
- Strong understanding of career development programs, performance management, and talent management concepts
- Strong Analytical and problem-solving abilities with keen attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with stakeholders across different levels of the organization.
- Demonstrated good judgment and confidentiality.
- Excellent time management, follow-through and organizational skills.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities with a high degree of accuracy and ability to delegate work as needed.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a strong emphasis on customer service orientation.
- Ability to handle highly confidential information.
- Ability to build strong relationships and work in a team environment.
- Ability to coach and council internal and external candidates on career development.
- Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.
Preferred:
- Experience designing career development material for adult learners
- Experience working with service members and their families
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Talent Development, I/O Psychology, or related field
