The Opportunity:
The Production Supervisor is a critical role in Marzetti to lead area teams in the efficient and safe production of high quality food sauces. The Supervisor works in a Value Stream over a group of packaging lines or mixing kitchens to develop their team members, implement continuous improvement processes and drive results.
Overview of the Program
The purpose of this internship is to provide interns with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to transition to full time employment as a Production Supervisor. The training program is designed to provide new employees with the opportunity to learn, the people, the process and the culture. Through this process they will also demonstrate their skills, which will allow T. Marzetti Company to better understand what developmental training is needed. (Note: The objective of the program is to provide full time employment to all interns who meet training objectives and receive positive performance appraisals. However, an offer of full-time employment is not guaranteed.)
Locations: Primary opportunities will be located in Ohio and Kentucky; however, opportunities may become available in the following states: Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts, Iowa, California, New Jersey
Duration: 90-120 Days
Training Specifics
On-the-Job Training: The training program is designed to provide interns with the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to transition into full-time employment with T. Marzetti Company as a Production Supervisor. Interns will receive a combination of on-the-job, field setting, classroom setting and computer-based training. Interns who demonstrate satisfactory completion of training objectives and receive positive performance reviews can expect to be offered full-time employment with one of T. Marzetti’s facilities as a Production Supervisor. Training objectives include:
- Company Overview: Interns will be familiarized with the company, company culture, organizational structure, policies, facilities, products/processes, KPIs and metrics.
- Safety: Interns will be familiarized with general safety knowledge, identification of safety defects, EH&S escalation, and coaching safety.
- Quality/GMP/Food Safety: Interns will be familiarized with food safety basics, quality assurance and quality control.
- Operations: Interns will receive in-depth training on product flow, packaging, procession, warehousing, maintenance and sanitation processes. Interns will also management systems including Proficy, SAP, OEE, Staffing and Crewing as well as people management systems such as POKA and Kronos.
- Leadership: Interns will receive leader professional development including leadership behaviors and team management.
- Continuous Improvement: Interns will be familiarized with Marzetti Operational Excellence and autonomous maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership:
- Develop direct reports through training, coaching, and evaluation.
- Shares best practices with other supervisors within and across value streams.
- Adheres to the performance management process and resolve any conflicts that arise within the team
- Perform tasks associated with employee timekeeping, attendance tracking, and workplace incident investigations and reporting
Operations:
- Champion the Marzetti Quality Culture to ensure production of the highest quality products and minimize food safety risks.
- Foster a safe workplace to minimize the risk of injury.
- Identify and prioritize activities of several production teams to ensure each line or kitchen achieves its production schedule.
- Cascade Operational Master Plan (OMP) to execute agreed manufacturing goals, objectives, measures, and activities; monitor progress and motivate team members to reach common goals
- Maintains control over staffing and labor costs in the production-related areas through cost-effective scheduling and utilization of personnel.
- Ensures optimum process control to minimize waste and rework costs.
- Ensure the timeliness and accuracy of all reporting and transaction requirements are met.
- Comply with GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practices) and all sanitation procedures and standards.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on goals and processes.
Change Management:
- Lead and support change initiatives within the value stream, ensuring effective communication and team engagement.
- Provide coaching on effective change leadership and create tools to help Team Leads lead their teams through transitions.
Visual Management:
- Implement visual controls based on business need, such as dashboards and performance boards, to provide real-time and trend data on key performance indicators (KPI’s).
- Facilitate and train the use of visual tools to drive problem-solving, decision-making, and continuous improvement at the team level.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Monitor and drive OEE performance.
- Drive the implementation of TPM (Marzetti Operational Excellence) methodologies to drive waste out of plant systems and improve plant performance, including RCA, center-lining, CIL’s, 5S, SMED, training and SOP’s.
- Comply with MOE standards that have been implemented.
- Ensure the sustainability of improvements through effective follow-up and coaching.
- Participate in the Tier 2 Meeting for the Value Stream.
- Lead and (or) participate in projects that align with the achievement of the Operational Master Plan (OMP).
Skills, Requirements, & Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations, or related field (Preferred).
- 2-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 1 year in a leadership role. Food Manufacturing experience is preferred.
- General understanding of Continuous Improvement methodologies (TPM experience preferred).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

Delivery of Training:
All training will be delivered on-site, in person and under the direct supervision and guidance of a fully trained and qualified Production Supervisor, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience. Additional on -the-job training and job shadowing will be conducted with experience line technicians and operators with subject matter expertise in specific functional areas.
Instructional Model:
Interns will receive a majority of their training in the manufacturing and field settings with job shadowing and on the job training (OJT). Time spent in the field may include work under adverse conditions. Additional classroom instruction and computer-based training may be used to supplement OJT.
