Student Success Advisor, TRIO Talent Search | Davidson-Davie County Community College - Military Veterans

The Student Success Advisor provides academic, personal, financial, and career counseling to low-income, first generation and/or academically disadvantaged middle and high school students that supports completion of a secondary school diploma, as well as enrolling and completing a postsecondary credential. This is a full-time, 12-month position funded by a five-year U.S. Department of Education grant. The majority of the time will be spent working independently on-site at Thomasville middle and high schools. The position reports to the Director, Talent Search, and has the following responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions:
Collaborates with Director, school administrators, teachers, and counselors to identify program participants and implement initiatives to improve high school persistence, graduation,and postsecondary success.
Coordinates recruitment strategies, accepts referrals, and assists in selecting Talent Search participants.
Delivers presentations to school staff, students, and parents, highlighting program benefits.
Provides academic advising focused on grade promotion, college readiness, and academic success.
Manages a caseload of 250+ students, conducts needs assessments, and develops individual College, Career, and Academic Plans (CCAPs).
Engages students and families in discussions about academic and non-academic challenges affecting progress and satisfaction.
Coordinates tutorial services and organizes study skills workshops with input from school staff.
Monitors attendance and disciplinary records to ensure program eligibility and provide resource interventions.
Leads college exploratory trips, enrichment activities, and cultural events to promote college readiness.
Participates in professional development activities, TRIO meetings, and school district training to support program goals.
Perform other duties as assigned which support the purpose and initiatives of the Program and College
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in education, administration, counseling, or a related field
2-3 years of experience counseling/advising youth
Experience working with individuals who are low-income and/or first-generation
Complete background and drug screening s
Preferred Qualifications
Masters degree from an accredited institution in education, administration, counseling, or a related field
Knowledge of college and university admissions and enrollment procedures
Knowledge of federal and state financial aid procedures
Experience working with federal Department of Education programs or TRIO Programs
Work experience with North Carolinas public schools and community organizations
Fluency in Spanish
Experience with google suite, social media and virtual meeting platforms
Work experience in a school and or college setting
Experience with Blumen and or Powerschool database systems
Personally overcome obstacles similar to those experienced by TRIO Talent Search program participants
