Integrated Behavioral Health and Addictions Counseling Teaching Specialist - Military Veterans

at HERC- Upper MidWest

We are interested in building a diverse group of faculty with experience in substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders who are passionate about educating future counselors in the Master of Professional Studies in Integrated Behavioral Health (IBH) and Addictions Counseling programs (ADDC). Teaching Specialists report to the Director for Graduate Programs in CCAPS, and typically teach one to two semester-length courses during the academic year. Courses may be offered in face-to-face, online, or hybrid formats.

Responsibilities

  • Teach the assigned course, fulfilling University policies and using course-appropriate effective practices: setting high expectations; supporting achievement with clear instructions, examples and samples; establishing frequent, regular contact with students; grading and returning coursework promptly with relevant formative and/or summative feedback; engaging students in relevant collaborative work; and submitting final grades on-time
  • Work with the Director of Graduate Studies for the IBH and ADDC programs and with other resident/adjunct faculty to ensure successful integration of required coursework and state licensing requirements.
  • Use industry and content expertise and keep current with research findings, workforce trends, professional ethics and policies related to culturally sensitive mental health and substance use counseling best practices to inform depth and breadth of course content.
  • Utilize new technologies to enhance curriculum delivery and accessibility to accommodate working adult students.
  • Utilize pedagogical best practices for diverse working adult learners.
  • Must be able to teach at scheduled class times, including evening and weekends and respond to course related student inquiries within 48 hours.
  • Proven ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people.

The ADDC and IBH programs have a need for additional instructional staff to offer coursework in topics that include foundations of substance use and co-occurring mental health disorders, applied psychopharmacology, assessment and treatment planning, counseling skills, research methods in counseling, among others.

This position offers a flexible work arrangement as a hybrid position and has the unique opportunity to help shape and be responsible for the student experience. Please note that this position is NOT eligible for sponsorship

Required
  • A demonstrative skill & commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Master's degree
  • An earned graduate degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, mental health counseling, community counseling, counselor education or master of social work from an accredited institution of higher education
  • A minimum of 5 years clinical practice and/or agency management with co-occurring mental health, substance use disorders
  • Clinical or teaching experience in thematic areas such as co-occuring mental health and addictions care, assessment and treatment planning, differential and/or advanced diagnostics, human development, evidence-based counseling skills etc.


Preferred
  • An earned doctorate in one of the academic fields listed above.
  • Licensed as a professional clinician (LADC, LPC, LPCC, LICSW, LMFT, LMFT or LP) or qualified to obtain such licenses in Minnesota.
  • A minimum of 3 semesters of teaching experience in a higher education setting with a solid record of strong student evaluations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to work successfully with diverse groups of people.
