Where You Will Work   

Our Miami smelter and rod plant is nestled just 90 miles east of Phoenix. The smelter processes copper concentrate primarily from our company’s Arizona copper mines and is the most significant source of sulphuric acid for our North American leaching operations. Arizona’s Globe-Miami historic mining district offers natural beauty and a rich mining heritage. What You Will Do

  • Serve as technical advisor on laboratory issues and analyses. 
  • Develop formulations, standards and specifications for processes, facilities, products, and tests in support of research and development, material characterization, metallurgical process enhancements and final product quality assurance. 
  • Contribute to new research and analytical method development; matching testing procedures or mining processes to ore body and developing appropriate techniques/SOPs and safety protocols. 
  • Perform training, oversight, mentorship and may serve as supervisor of technicians. 
  • Prepare timely and accurate reports and deliver presentations on processes and projects to Chemists, Engineers, Metallurgists, and management. 
  • Research quality control/quality analysis issues and make recommendations to Sr. Chemist/Chief Chemist for evaluation/correction. 
  • Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment. 
  • Maintain current working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local regulations. 
  • Perform other duties as required. 

What You Bring To Freeport

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or very closely related field with a strong emphasis in Chemistry (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Biology) and two (2) years of experience as a Chemist in a research/analytical lab environment 
  • Knowledge of the principles and methods used in complex chemical, laboratory, and quality assurance analyses. 
  • Current knowledge of laboratory instrumentation 
  • Familiarity with modern analytical chemistry instrumentation methods 
  • Good decision-making skills regarding proper laboratory technique and comparative laboratory procedures 
  • Ability to research and analyze information of considerable difficulty and draw valid conclusions. 
  • Skill in effective communication, both verbal and written 
  • Must have good application of computer programs and basic understanding of statistical data analysis. 
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions. 
  • Skill in following safety practices and recognizing hazards. 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Inorganic Lab Analysis Experience

What We Offer You 

The estimated annual pay range for this role is currently $72,000-$98,000. This range reflects base salary only and does not include bonus payments, benefits or retirement contributions. Actual base pay is determined by experience, qualifications, skills and other job-related factors. This role is eligible for additional discretionary and incentive payment considerations based on company and individual performance. More details will be shared during the hiring process.
