Head Football Coach Job Type: Administrative Staff Job Number: 00375 Location: Westerville, OH Division: Student Affairs DESCRIPTION Otterbein University is seeking a Head Football Coach who will provide oversight of all phases of the football program, focusing on the holistic development of the student athletes, academic excellence, competitive success, robust participation, and positively contributing to the greater community. This is a full-time, exempt position reporting to the Athletic Director. Applications will be reviewed immediately. For more information on Otterbein University Athletics, please visit: https://otterbeincardinals.com/ JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Assists in selecting and developing qualified individuals to serve as assistant coaches in the program. Responsible for organizing and conducting a recruiting program, that will work towards and maintain a roster sweet spot', which includes but is not limited to developing a visible presence in the central Ohio football community, accurately tracking recruit and visit data and communicating with/collaborating frequently with our Admissions office. Responsible to the Athletic Director or his/her representative for all phases of the athletic program involving, but not limited to, student athlete development, budget, equipment, staff, student athlete academic success, OAC and NCAA rules and regulations, campus policies and procedures, and athlete image and discipline. Abides by and confers with the Director of Athletics concerning all University, OAC, and NCAA polices and rules; responsible for making certain all of the assistant coaches are familiar with the athletic policy manual; schedules practice and competitions; insures that the NCAA compliance forms are complete and signed before any participation takes place; submits and maintains a roster of players to the Athletic Director's administrative assistant prior to the first contest and throughout the year; confers with the Director of Athletic Communications concerning sports publicity. Responsible for implementing the department and college policies concerning sportsmanship and school representation. Responsible for collaborating with the athletic trainers and team physicians for the medical well-being and protection of the student-athlete; ensures that each athlete receives a medical examination before participation; reviews all departmental emergency procedures. Must be knowledgeable of Otterbein University policies concerning but not limited to: Hazing, Substance Abuse, Sexual Harassment, Sexual Assault, Sexual Violence, Discrimination, and Intimidation and FERPA Must be familiar with the Otterbein University Student Code of Conduct and the Student Athlete Handbook. Responsible for the personal conduct of all coaches, staff and players associated with the program. It is understood that these areas of interest will be kept in line with the standards of good conduct and image that will reflect positively on the program, the athletic department, and Otterbein University. The Athletic Director will serve as a resource for the head coach. The head coach will be responsible for being sensitive to the needs of underrepresented populations. Furthermore, the promotion of ethnic diversity should be shown in recruiting athletes and coaches. Additional duties may be assigned by the Athletic Director as deemed necessary for the Athletic Department. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's Degree Required REQUIRED: Must have a valid driver's license. May be required to drive team and coaches to program related activities. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must demonstrate professional level oral and written communications skills including grammar. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Must demonstrate the capacity to manage our budget system. TECHNICAL SKILLS: Must be knowledgeable of technical skills associated with coaching sport. REASONING ABILITY: Must possess excellent attention to details; must be a team player and interact collegially with co-workers and other constituencies. Must possess excellent customer service skills. Must possess strong organizational skills. Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in unusual or new situations. Must be able to work independently and must retain confidential information.
