SUSTAINABLE AND RESILIENT SOLUTIONS PRACTICE
Sustainable and Resilient Solutions (SRS) is a business entity within Michael Baker International. The SRS focuses on MEP+ Building Engineering Services with a focus on Energy and Water Conservation, Carbon Neutrality, Resiliency, and Distributed Energy Projects. As a Mechanical Engineer in the SRS, this individual will be responsible for providing mechanical engineering expertise. In this role, the successful candidate will design the mechanical aspects of projects, work with the senior mechanical engineers on projects and work with our project managers.
DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Director of Mechanical Engineering for our Sustainable and Resilient Solutions (SRS) vertical. This position will oversee the mechanical engineering team responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining mechanical systems in building projects. This role involves leading a team of engineers, managing projects from inception to completion, and ensuring all mechanical systems are efficient, sustainable, and meet client requirements. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the MEP services industry, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and building a successful mechanical engineering team. This role will also be responsible for identifying and pursuing new MEP business opportunities, developing, and maintaining client relationships, and ensuring the high-quality delivery of mechanical designs to clients.
Leadership and Management:
- Assign projects/proposals, tasks, set goals, and monitor team performance.
- Conduct bi-weekly one-on-ones with direct report(s).
- Support technical managers with overall leadership and mentorship of the mechanical team.
- Assist with setting and tracking progress for direct report's(s') performance and career development goals.
- Conduct end-of-year performance reviews and merit increase recommendations for direct report(s).
- Foster a highly collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Oversee all phases of mechanical engineering projects, from design to construction.
- Develop project plans, timelines, and budgets.
- Coordinate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Be a resource for peers and junior staff on technical questions.
- Prepare complex studies, calculations, reports, construction specifications, and other supporting documentation.
- Satisfy project requirements by ensuring that quality standards, schedules, and budgets are met.
- Identify and resolve any issues or deficiencies.
- Perform internal technical reviews (ITRs) or quality control reviews, when needed.
- Implement best practices for quality control and continuous improvement.
- Communicate with clients to understand their needs and provide technical expertise.
- Present project proposals and updates to clients.
- Ensure client satisfaction through effective project delivery.
- Promote sustainable engineering practices.
- Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technologies.
- Participate in internal and external professional development activities.
- Review scope of work, create pricing and technical documents, and develop fee estimates for proposal pursuits.
- Grow revenue from existing client base through ensuring high quality work product and regular client interactions.
- Identify and win new work from new clients.
- Bachelor's degree in business, marketing, or engineering related field; MBA preferred.
- At least 15 years of progressive experience in business development and sales, with a focus on MEP services industry.
- P.E. Professional Engineer
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with customers and partners.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Successful history of Revenue and Profit Attainment Targets
- Strong track record of Customer Satisfaction
The salary range for this position is $131,000-$227,000. This will be dependent on the experience and expertise of the incoming candidate.
