Project Manager - Military Veterans

The School of Public Health Division of Health Policy & Management is seeking applications for a part-time (30 hours per week; 75% time) Or full-time Project Manager (40 hours per week; 100% time) to support federally-funded public health activities and research within the division, job code 8352RP, Research Professional 2-Research Project Management.

This position offers an exciting opportunity to work with both the Midwest Analytics and Disease Modeling Center (MADMC) , led by PI Dr. Eva Enns, and Dr. Xiao Zang's lab . The role is evenly split, with 50% dedicated to supporting MADMC projects and 50% focused on assisting Zang's lab, primarily in managing a National Institute of Drug Abuse (NIDA) of the National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded R33 project (Principle Investigator: Zang) for which Dr. Enns is a co-investigator.

Starting pay is dependent upon the selected candidate's relevant qualifications, experience, and internal equity: $56,300 - $72,176 at 100% time (40 hours per week) Or $42,225 - $54,132 at 75% time (30 hours per week).

Center Description: The Midwest Analytics and Disease Modeling Center (MADMC) in the University of Minnesota School of Public Health is seeking a Project Manager to support center activities. MADMC is one of 13 US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)-funded Insight Net sites tasked to work with public health and health system partners to establish and pilot test mathematical modeling and data analytic tools to support decision-making during a pandemic or other infectious disease emergency. MADMC brings together academic experts in decision analysis, infectious disease modeling, data analytics, health informatics, machine learning, and geospatial analysis to work with state public health and health system leaders.

Dr. Xiao Zang's lab at the University of Minnesota focuses on applying quantitative modeling methods to address critical public health challenges, particularly in health equity, HIV/AIDS prevention, and harm reduction strategies for drug overdose prevention. The lab combines decision-analytic modeling, economic evaluation, and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate and optimize public health interventions. By developing modeling, analytical, and decision support tools, Dr. Zang's team collaborates closely with public health agencies and local partners to inform effective, equitable, and sustainable policy decisions.

Duties and Responsibilities

Research and Project Management (60%)

  • Manage the overall oversight of milestone completion and day-to-day activities.
  • Collaborate on developing a system of ongoing monitoring and progress tracking on all facets of the project to ensure task completion and on-time submission of deliverables (reports, presentations, modeling and decision support tools).
  • Assist in developing comprehensive timelines, project plans, and identify resources to manage and meet deadlines.
  • Summarize and identify action steps/to do items for each meeting along with necessary timelines.
  • Manage the reporting process to effectively deliver, track, and manage all project-related data for quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting.
  • Coordinate a summer fellowship program, including recruiting applicants, scheduling training activities such as seminars, and arranging mentors (MADMC).
  • Conduct literature reviews to support ongoing research projects.

Communications (20%)
  • Develop and execute project communications strategies, including newsletters, webinars, media briefs, and website updates.
  • Coordinate communication with funders, partners, investigators, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Assist with writing, editing, and formatting reports, manuscripts, and other written summaries of project activities and findings.

Administrative (20%)
  • Coordinate calendars, schedule meetings of collaborators and partners, record and distribute meeting notes, ensure availability of supplies, and other administrative tasks as needed.
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of administrative documents necessary for project activities, such as data use agreements and memoranda of understanding.
  • Assist the UMN grants management and finance teams as needed with activities required for project operations.

Required Qualifications
  • BA/BS with at least 2 years of experience or a combination of related education and work experience equal to six years.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written communication
  • Demonstrated ability or experience in editing and proofreading.
  • Strong attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel & PowerPoint) and Google Drive.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters of Public Health, Healthcare Administration, or other relevant field.
  • Experience working at or with public health departments.
  • Background or interest in public health, infectious diseases, substance use research and/or disease modeling.
  • Experience with project management software tools.
