General Description The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University seeks a full-time, ranked faculty member in Music for New Media (MFN) beginning July 1, 2025. The new faculty member will teach and recruit students for the BM in Music for New Media and MM in Film and Game Scoring degree programs. Peabody's New Media programs prepare students for careers at the intersection of music and storytelling, whether in film scoring, composing soundtracks for video games, writing music for film or TV, or composing for virtual and augmented reality experiences while exploring emerging technologies such as AI. Responsibilities  The new faculty member will teach MFN courses and applied composition lessons and advise advanced students on their capstone projects. MFN faculty share oversight of the studios, which may include managing hardware and software tools. Peabody faculty contribute to curriculum, program development, and institutional improvement through committee work. Faculty are also expected to maintain an active profile in scholarship, composition, or performance. Salary Range The expected academic base salary range for an Assistant Professor is 60,000 to 70,000. The expected academic base salary range for an Associate Professor is 70,000 to 80,000. The expected academic base salary range for a Professor is 80,000 to 95,000. The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training, and skill level. Qualifications The successful candidate should document experience as a professional composer for film, television, and interactive media such as video games. The position requires demonstrated proficiency with software commonly used in professional scoring for picture (linear/narrative and interactive).   The candidate should also have experience teaching at the post-secondary level. Faculty must demonstrate training in music composition, music technology, film and media, or a related field. A graduate degree is strongly preferred.
