Requisition Number: S_241085 Department: Nebraska College Preparatory Academy-10850 Description of Work: The NCPA High School Teacher is responsible for providing academic support and guidance to Nebraska College Preparatory Academy ( NCPA ) students at Omaha Bryan High School. This position will oversee NCPA's University Preparatory Academy Success Seminar ( UPASS ) for NPCA students grades 9-12. UPASS is designed to enhance NCPA students' critical thinking, analytical skills, and vocabulary and provide access to tutors. The High School Teacher will be responsible for planning and implementing a curriculum that supplements the Omaha Bryan High School curriculum while engaging students in current events, creative reading and writing, and better preparing them for the academic rigors of college. Additionally, this position will be responsible for coordinating NCPA's Summer School program and the hiring of Summer School teachers. Other duties of this position will include implementing NCPA tutoring program, coordinating the senior research project and capstone poster, and administering ACT preparation. The position will meet with school counselors to discuss the academic needs of NCPA students and serve as a liaison between UNL , Omaha Bryan, and the community. The High School Teacher will partner with the NCPA wellness team to ensure the delivery of required lessons for the DHHS Teen Outreach Program grant. May be required to work evenings and weekends. This is a grant-funded position and will be located in Omaha, NE, with the occasional travel to Lincoln, NE. Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in education, sociology, family studies, or related field and 1 year of related experience required. Must have a teaching certificate or be eligible for one in the state of Nebraska. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with ethnic and culturally diverse groups of students. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and educators, including but not limited to parents, community and school leaders, and alumni. Ability to work independently. Familiarity with UNL's College Relations & Academic Advising operations and procedures. Knowledge of the state of Nebraska and its challenges amongst under-represented populations Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred. One year of experience providing academic support to first-generation, low-income, and minority students preferred. Knowledge of the Omaha community is desirable Event planning experience helpful.
