Job Summary and Qualifications
The Process Engineering department exists to instill a culture of continuous improvement across the HCA enterprise and provide an internal consulting function for HCA Executive Leadership. The department employs industry-recognizable methodologies for process engineering and improvement, specifically: Lean, Six Sigma, Theory of Constraints, and process automation. These methodologies focus on voice of customer and statistical analysis of data in order to remove waste and variation in processes, which:
- Improves patient and/or customer experience
- Increases revenue and capacity
- Reduces errors and expenses
- Addresses company strategic problems or goals
The Process Engineering department functions as a Center of Excellence (CoE) for process engineering at HCA, owns the above methodologies, and consults across the enterprise in order to:
- Drive and create a culture of continuous improvement
- Improve quality across the enterprise
- Operate an elite, graduate-level Lean Six Sigma (LSS) certification program
- Conserve valuable HCA resources by identifying and implementing efficiency opportunities in work processes
- Lead change in HCA groups/organizations in the execution of the company’s strategic goals
The department has established and operates a partnership with the Jack C. Massey Graduate School of Business and the Center for Executive Education at Belmont University, which is the only partnership between a Fortune 100 company and a graduate education program in the United States. This partnership provides accreditation for the graduate-level Lean Six Sigma certifications at Green Belt (intermediate) Black Belt (advanced) and Master Black Belt (expert) levels. Each level of certification requires the candidate to qualify, attend class, pass a test, and execute projects, including submitting relevant deliverables, which collectively takes about one year. Leaders and Process engineers operating within the department are dedicated process improvement professionals who specialize in applying LSS concepts across the matrixed HCA Healthcare enterprise. Successful Process Engineers combine their expertise in LSS, statistical data analysis, project management, business analysis, and mass- and direct-communication to both execute projects and equip others to be successful with their own projects. They must manage their time well and transition seamlessly between leading others, executing projects, and completing operational tasks.
The Process Engineering Intern is an important part of the department's operations. Qualified candidates must balance between different work streams, responsibilities, and tasks while supporting the department. The intern will:
- Operate as an executing team member making contributions toward department goals
