Responsible for supervising the day-to-day shop activities and ensuring compliance with local, county and state regulations. The full salary range for the Garage Manager is $66,500 - $118,300 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $66,500 - $92,400 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Requirements: Educational Requirements Typically requires an Associate degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Required Bachelor's degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Experience Requirements 4 - 7 years of related experience. Required Minimum of 4 - 5 years of experience with practical farm functions. Required Minimum 2 years automotive industry experience. Required Previous supervisory / managerial experience. Preferred Minimum Requirements Supervisory experience; ability to effectively supervise technical personnel. Interpersonal skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, ability to multi-task effectively in a high volume environment, organizational skills and effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to adapt to changing priorities, and manage staff time and effort accordingly to provide exceptional customer service. Working knowledge of repair, maintenance and storage of fleet vehicles. Ability to perform industry-standard diagnostic and troubleshooting testing. Ability to operate personal computers, office software, computerized vehicle maintenance programs, and other specialized diagnostic devices and power tools. Knowledge of all applicable codes, rules and regulations related to maintenance and repair of fleet. Ability to perform basic mathematical and budget operations. Preferred Qualifications Working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Ability to obtain and maintain specialty certification within automotive industry such as the Automotive Service Excellence certifications (ASE). Key Responsibilities: Responsible for providing guidance to staff, assigning schedules and monitoring customer service levels to various constituencies for the unit. Under general direction, plan, organize and direct the operations of a complex agricultural maintenance and repair facility in two locations with the supervision of (1) one farm machinery mechanic, (1) one senior agricultural technician and (1) one principle agricultural technician. The garage manager must evaluate the shop workload, establish priorities for shop personnel, and schedule activities according to project demands. Supervise the design and fabrication of equipment for research projects and maintain related records for shop activities. Recommends and participates in hiring of new employees, transfers, promotions,salary actions, terminations, and performance management. Ensure safe work environment. 60% Develops preventive maintenance programs to maintain reliability of fleet vehicles and repair equipment. Make vehicle replacement recommendations as necessary. Responsible for managing the repair, service and maintenance of approximately 125+ pieces of equipment using gasoline, diesel and propane fuels, including farming equipment (wheel and track type), trucks, pickups, farm implements, specialized turf equipment, sprayers, harvesters, mechanical pruners, spreaders, mixers and stationary equipment such as wind machines and pumps. Determine costs for repairs, order and procure necessary equipment and parts, determine and maintain adequate inventories of replacements parts, and developequipment service maintenance schedules. 25% Responsible for maintaining records for all shop activities including equipment time, maintenance and repair history, and other services. Train shop personnel in the safe use of equipment, including welders, lathes, milling machines, shapers, presses, lifts and jacks and miscellaneous power tools. Approves employee time records. Coordinates vacation schedules. Conducts employee recruitment, performance evaluations, merit recommendations, promotions or reclassifications, as well as counseling and disciplinary action as needed.Responsible for procurement of necessary equipment and parts through the Federal Excess Property Program. Prepare budget recommendations to support shop functions and ensures that operations are conducted with in authorized allocations. Keep records of labor and materials for sales and services activities. Establish shop safety procedures, utilizing EPA (Environmental Protection Agency), OSHA/Cal OSHA codes, DPR (Department of Pesticide Regulations) as applicable and Environmental health and safety requirements. Maintain inventory of chemicals, rotating stock items and keep maintenance, the cost, the mileage/hours up to date for equipment inventory. Assist with determining items to be sold and arrange the sale. Determine when an outside vendor is needed to perform repairs. Supervise the assignment of vehicles to various staff members, and directs clerical personnel in the compilation of shop records. Responsible for compliance with state and local regulations impacting garage operations, such as waste oil, fuel, and oil storage and chemical inventory. 10% Establish, communicate, and monitor the implementation of uniform operating procedures to ensure consistency in performance standards.
