Part-Time Public Safety Officer Provides high-profile, uniformed public safety and security services to supplement and assist full-time Public Safety Staff. Essential Functions Provide safety and security services at University Chapel by enforcing University Chapel rules and regulations. Provides basic greeter function for all Chapel visitors/guests. Acts as a knowledgeable resource to students, staff, and visitors to campus. Provides general information such as directions and more up-to-date information about campus events and activities. Additional hours available for events upon completion of CPR /AED and Basic First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogens, Crowd Manager, ICS-100, Fire Extinguisher, and CSO training. Provide safety and security services at large University events. Enforces University policies, rules, and regulations. Assists with traffic and parking operations as assigned. Other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Part-time Officers may be assigned to a specific location/detail, such as University Chapel security or event security during a given shift. The position requires availability on an as-needed/available basis, primarily during daylight hours, especially weekends, including holidays. Minimum Pay: $17.75 per hour Minimum Qualifications: The position requires a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent . Successful candidates will possess a high degree of reliability, the ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Successful candidates can also relate well to students, faculty, and a diverse community. Must possess a valid Virginia driver's license and a good driving history. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Fingering: Picking, pinching, typing, or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling. Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm. Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Pulling: Using the upper extremities to exert force to draw, drag, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles. WORKING CONDITIONS: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside. TYPE OF WORK: Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
